KING'S FIELD HOCKEY POSTS 3-2 OVERTIME WIN OVER DELAWARE VALLEY

WILKES-BARRE -- Senior defensive midfielder Anastasia Araviakis scored her first career goal in dramatic fashion as the King's College field hockey team posted a 3-2 overtime victory over visiting Delaware Valley University Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win King's improved to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in MAC Freedom Conference play while Delaware Valley slipped to 4-6 and 0-2.

Delaware Valley scored the lone goal of the first half when Alexa Aguilar scored after her shot was redirected by a King's stick into the Monarch net.

King's tied the score 4:31 into the second half when Anna Morgan stuck net following a cross by Anastasia Araviakis.

King's took a 2-1 lead at 58:45 when Selina Malacari scored on a cross by Kelsey Gabriele just inside the right post. But the Aggies tied the score at 2-2 with 6:57 left in regulation on an unassisted goal by Samantha Collyer.

The teams would eventually go to overtime where Araviakis delivered the game winner on a drive from just inside the top right of the circle that found the net inside the left post. Araviakis finished the game with one goal and one assist.

King's outshot Delaware Valley 16-4 and had a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Monarchs also owned a 10-5 lead in penalty corners.

The Monarchs return to the field Monday with a 7:00 PM home game with Moravian.
