KING'S MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS MISERICORDIA 1-0 IN DOUBLE-OVERTIME
WILKES-BARRE -- August Axtman scored the game winning goal on a penalty kick with 2:01 left in the second overtime as the King's College men's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over visiting Misericordia University Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win King's improved to 6-3-1 overall and 1-0 in MAC Freedom Conference play. Misericordia, meanwhile, fell to 0-10 and 0-1 in league competition.
After nearly 108 minutes of scoreless play, King's Alastair Dinnan received a pass on the right wing and cut toward goal. Dinnan was tackled well inside the box and the Cougars were whistled for a penalty kick.  Axtman was selected by Monarch coach Mark Bassett to take the kick and the Monarch sophomore calmly converted the kick for the game-winner.
King's held a 11-2 advantage in total shots, as well as a 6-0 lead in shots on goal. The Monarchs also led 7-4 in corner kicks.  Cougar keeper Patrick Hoffman made five saves in net while King's Owen Geedey was not forced to make a save while picking up his 19th career shutout.
King's returns to the pitch Tuesday with a 7:00 PM home game with Penn College of Technology.
