King's Women Improve to 2-0 in MAC Freedom with 48-41 win at Eastern

KING'S WOMEN IMPROVE TO 2-0 IN MAC FREEDOM WITH 48-41 ROAD VICTORY OVER EASTERN

ST. DAVIDS — The King's College women's basketball team held a 33-31 lead after three quarters and outscored host Eastern University 15-10 over the final period to secure a 48-41 MAC Freedom Conference victory Saturday in St. Davids.

With the win King's improved to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in league play while Eastern slipped to 3-9 and 0-2.

King's forged a 16-7 first quarter lead before settling for a 22-15 half-time lead. But Eastern outscored King's 16-11 in the third period to close to within 33-31 with 10 minutes to play.

The Lady Monarchs got an inside basket from Rebecca Prociak to go ahead 35-31 before the Eagles scored three straight to cut the score to 35-34 with 8:22 to play. After King's Mackenzie Yori canned a three-pointer, Taylor Price converted two free throws for Eastern to trim the lead to 38-36 with 7:15 on the clock.

Yori later made one-of-two foul shots before Olivia Hoffman scored down low to give King's a 41-36 lead with 4:52 to play. Price added a jumper for Eastern, but Kin's countered with one-of-two free throws from Prociak to push the score to 42-38 with 2:59 on the clock.

After an Eagle miss, Prociak again stepped up with another inside basket to give King's a 44-38 lead at the 1:40 mark. Tayaor Azer made one of two foul shots for Eastern to trim the lead to 44-39 with 1:24 to go. Eastern would foul and Yori went to the line and hit a pair to give the Lady Monarchs a 36-39 advantage with 0:30 left.

After an Eastern bucket with 0:18 remaining, Yori was fouled with 0:07 on the clock and made both shots to set the final score.

Prociak posted her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists while Yori added 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Hoffmann added eight points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and four blocks while Alexis Steeber and Lindsey Dippre chipped in with seven and five points respectively.

Eastern was paced by Price with 19 points and there assists while Amanda Riif added 10 points and two steals.

King's returns to action Monday night with a 6:00 PM game at Lycoming College in Williamsport.
