Alastair Dinnan in the 47th minute for King's lone goal of the match.
Manhattanville went on the road to defeat DeSales 1-0. Johnny Arauz scored in the fifth minute for the only goal of the match as the Valiants outshot the Bulldogs 18-8.
The Book On The Monarchs (7-4-2, 2-1-0 MAC Freedom):
- Saturday's match will have serious postseason implications for both teams as the Monarchs are currently in a three-way tie with Manhattanville and Wilkes for second place in the conference standings with six points. Eastern is atop the standings with nine points while DeSales, FDU-Florham, and Misericordia have three points with four matches remaining.
- Despite the tough loss to the Colonels on Tuesday, King's still has the top-ranked defense in the MAC Freedom and one of the best in the nation. The Monarchs have played the most minutes of any team in the conference while conceding the least amount of goal. KC is 18th in the nation with a 0.51 goals against average and 19th with a .615 shutout percentage.
- Senior keeper Owen Geedey is having one of his best seasons of his impressive career and is one reason why King's has one of the top defenses in the nation. The captain has been honored twice as the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week and is eighth in Division III with 1226:12 minutes played. His has recorded seven shutouts this season which is ranked ninth in the nation and is one shy of his own school record of eight he recorded in 2016. He is currently the school record holder with 29 career shutouts. His .844 save percentage is second in the conference and 48th in the nation while his 0.51 goals against average is 23rd in the nation. Geedey has a career GAA of 0.60 which will be a school record.
- The Monarchs are not only outscoring the opposition 20-7 this season, they are also outshooting them 214-90. King's has put more shots on goal than they have allowed with 92 as 43.0% of their shots have been on goal. The Monarch defense is allowing just 6.9 shots per match. The team continues to lead the conference and are up to 12th in the nation with 7.23 corner kicks taken per match.
- Junior forward Aidan DeCamillo is tied for 11th in the MAC Freedom with nine points on four goals and one assist. His .565 shot accuracy is the second best in the conference. DeCamillo has scored in both of King's conference wins.
- Defender August Axtman continues to be one of King's top scorers as well as anchoring the defense. The junior captain has been named the MAC Freedom Defender of the Week twice this season while scoring a team-leading four goals. Axtman has scored three of his goals on penalty kicks which gives him seven in his career. His four goals this season are tied for eighth in the MAC Freedom. His two game-winning goals are the most in the conference.
- Seven other Monarchs have scored this year lead by sophomore Liam McLoughlin with three while junior Fabio Massa and sophomore Sam Pipicelli have two each. McLoughlin has also recorded two assists and is fifth in the conference with 31 shots taken. Massa is seventh with 29 shots taken.
- Freshman Quentin Szeker-Cortes sits in a tie for fifth in the conference with four assists. The defender has recorded all his assists off set pieces as he has taken many of the free kicks and corner kicks for the Monarchs.
- King's is 6-6-1 all-time against the Valiants and 5-5-1 in conference play. The Monarchs have faced Manhattanville in the conference tournament twice. M'Ville is 4-2 against KC in Purchase winning the most recent meeting 3-2 in 2016. This will be the last conference match between the programs as M'Ville will rejoin the Skyline Conference next year.
The Book On The Valiants (9-3-0, 2-1-0 MAC Freedom):
- Manhattanville enters Saturday's match with a 9-3 overall record and 2-1 mark in MAC Freedom play after going on the road to defeat DeSales 1-0 on Tuesday.
- The Valiants are 3-1 on GoValiants.com Field this year and are outscoring teams 18-3 in the four matches. M'Ville defeated Delaware Valley 3-0 last week in Purchase and dropped a 3-0 decision at Eastern two weeks ago.
- Steve DeMatteo is in his second season as head coach of the Valiants and has already surpassed the team's win total from last year.
- The Valiants have the top-ranked offense in the conference this year scoring 2.92 goals per match and 35 total. The team also leads the conference with 30 assists and 220 shots taken. M'Ville is ranked 30th nationally in goals. 24th in scoring offense, points and assists. Their 9.67 shots on goal per match is 21st in the nation.
- Junior Cristian Araujo is sixth in the conference with 12 points on six goals. His six goals are the second most scored in the MAC Freedom this season.
- Sophomore Pablo Bravo Olle has scored four goals, including two game-winners, and added one assist for nine points. Classmate Marius Nicolaysen has also recorded nine points on three goals and three assists.
- Freshman Johnny Arauz scored the lone goal of the match on Tuesday at DeSales and scored twice against the Aggies last Saturday. The forward has scored three of M'Ville's four goals in conference play.
- Freshman Nico Diaz, Kenny Adiyiah, and Lucas Rodrigues lead the team with four assists each.
- Freshman keeper Charles Roberts has a fantastic 0.71 GAA and .857 save percentage while recording a 7-2 record in 888:35 minutes of action. He is third in the conference in GAA, fourth in saves per match with 4.20, second in shutouts with six, and tops the conference in save percentage.
Up Next: King's will be back on the road on Wednesday for another important MAC Freedom contest in a rematch of last year's semifinal. The Monarchs will take on DeSales University at 3:30 p.m. in Center Valley. The Bulldogs eliminated KC from last year's conference tournament 4-3 on penalty kicks after playing to a scoreless draw.
