SINGLES BRACKET
WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 14, 2018) -- The King's College men's tennis team saw many of their players compete in the second and final day of action from the 2018 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men's Tennis Individual Championships from Kirby Park.
In No. 1 singles play, junior and third-seed
Tyler Millan took on second-seed Juan Huertas from Manhattanville in the semifinals Sunday, playing a thrilling match that ended in a 10-point tiebreaker. Huertas was able to take the match lead after earning a 6-4 win in the first set, but Millan responded with an emphatic 6-1 victory in the second set.
In the super-tiebreaker, Huertas jumped out a 4-2 advantage but the King's top player battled back to tie it at five. Manhattanville's Huertas would rally to take a 9-6 edge in the tiebreak, but Millan rattled off three straight points to stay alive. In the end, Huertas was able to take the last two points and earn the 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 win.
The No. 2 singles bracket saw
Owen Hegarty play a very spirited match with Andre Sturniolo of Stevenson University. Sturniolo secured the first set 6-2, and broke Hegarty late in the second set to take the 6-2, 7-5 decision in a competitive, back-and-forth match.
