Monarch Volleyball Match Notes - Misericordia University

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (October 15, 2018) – The King's College volleyball team will attempt to defend home court tomorrow evening as they take on Misericordia University at 7:00 p.m. in a crucial Middle Atlantic Conference bout. The winner of this match has the inside track toward a playoff berth.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs took part in the MIT Invitational in Cambridge, Massachusetts over fall break. King's went 1-2 in the tournament losing to nationally ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology the first day of competition while falling to Hunter College and defeating Utica College on Saturday. Senior Rachel Miller had 23 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks in the tournament, and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
The Book on the Monarchs (17-7, 3-2 MAC Freedom):
  • King's will clinch a playoff berth if they can secure a win in four sets or less.
  • KC has registered 16.83 digs per set, the second highest in the conference.
  • The Monarchs rank fourth in the conference with 10.99 kills per set, a .179 hitting percentage and a .137 opponent hitting percentage.
  • After a huge week last week, Rachel Miller jumped up to second in the conference with 3.95 kills per set.
  • Miller is eighth in the conference with a .253 hitting percentage.
  • Miller's next kill will put her in fifth place on the program's all-time kill list. She is currently tied with Kaitlyn Malshefski ('10) with 1216 kills.
  • First-year outside hitter Becca Goldberg was efficient in the team's win over Utica on Saturday registering 12 kills on just two errors in 21 attempts. Her .476 hitting percentage is the highest mark of the season in games with 20 or more attempts.
  • First-year libero Taylor Mueller is first in the MAC Freedom with 427 total digs and second with 5.69 digs per set.
  • Mueller is also third in the conference with 47 service aces and 0.63 service aces per set.
  • Wiatt Hoffmann is sixth in the conference with 8.61 assists per set and 715 overall assists.
 
The Book on the Cougars (18-9, 3-2 MAC Freedom):
  • Misericordia will clinch their first MAC Freedom playoff berth since 2015 with a win tomorrow night.
  • The Cougars lead the nation with 293 service aces.
  • Misericordia is third in the conference with 10.72 assists per match and 11.59 kills per match.
  • The team has a .183 hitting percentage, good for third in the MAC Freedom.
  • The Cougars have five of the Top 12 servers in terms of service aces in the league.
  • Karley May takes No. 1 in MAC Freedom as well as the nation with 73 aces, Tarra Weliver sits at second (54), Alexa Monro tied at No. 5 (43), Jessica Oltman is seventh (38) and Sara Pool is tied for 11th (33).
  • Welliver is third in the conference with a .315 hitting percentage, while teammate Oltman is fourth with a .313 hitting percentage.
  • Welliver has 2.68 kills per set, eighth best in the MAC Freedom.
  • May has registered 9.70 assists per set, the third highest in the MAC Freedom.
