Women's Soccer Come Up Short At Eastern To End Season

ST DAVID'S, PA (October 27, 2018) – The Monarchs took on Eastern University in a match that would determine their chance of qualifying for the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Tournament. King's came up short to the Eagles 2-0 on two second half goals.

Both teams were ended their season as Eastern was eliminated last night when FDU-Florham upset Wilkes. The Monarchs ended their season 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the MAC Freedom. Eastern improved to 7-10-1 and 3-3-1 in conference play.

King's started out the game with three corner kicks by Breanna Jacinto. On the third she was able to find Anna Lacalamita for a header that went wide. The Monarchs wouldn't let up and in the eighth minute Sophia Sacknievich took a wide shot and Danielle Putnam's attempt would get saved.

Eastern would answer with a corner and sho on goal attempt of their own but Tara Bender would shut it down. The Eagles and Monarchs would go back and forth with shot attempts as King's would take six more shots, three by Putnam, two by Jacinto and one by Gillian Coar. Eastern would take four more but come up short.

The match went into the second half scoreless until Eastern's Nicole Weenink was able to record her seventh of the season in the 50th minute on a slip pass from Casey Avello. The Monarchs fought valiantly to score as Emma Baumbusch tallied two shot attempts, Jacinto took a shot and two corner kicks as well as shots by Kara Keim and Emily Harrington. Eastern was able to score their second and what would be their final goal by Weenink at 67:32.

Shots by Baumbusch and Sacknievich would round out the attempts by the Monarchs. The game ended with a header shot by Eastern that hit the crossbar. Bender would save five shots this game.

The Monarchs outshot the Eagles 16-9 and had a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks. Grace Schreckengast made seven saves in net for Eastern.
