Women’s Soccer Unable To Tame Cougars

DALLAS, PA (October 6, 2018) – The King's College women's soccer team fell to nationally-ranked Misericordia University 6-0 on Saturday in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom match at Mangelsdorf Field in Dallas.

The 14th-ranked Cougars (8-2-1, 2-0 MAC Freedom) jumped on the Monarchs (4-6, 1-1) early with two goals in the first four minutes of the match. Alexa Alchevsky gave MU a 1-0 lead just 2:25 in when she knocked in a corner kick from Hannah Larkin. Larkin doubled the Cougar lead 70 seconds later with a goal of her own.

Misericordia added goals in the 14th and 20th minutes to increase their lead to 4-0. Evelyn Logie scored unassisted early in the 14th minute for the Cougars before Ashley Edgell scored MU's fourth goal of the match off assists by Larkin and Michaela Fasolino.

The Monarchs fought hard to cut into the Cougar advantage as Stephanie Corea put a shot on goal in the 33rd minute that Alexis Benedetto was able to keep out of the back of the net with a save. Misericordia responded a couple minutes later with their fifth goal of the half by Jeanna Orfanos off a double assist by Kendall Pearage and Emma Przyhocki.

The Cougars kept the pressure on the Monarchs in the second half with two shots that were blocked and went high. Danielle Putnam found space in the 60th minute but her shot went wide of the net. Shestan Lynam scored the final goal of the match in the 63rd minute. Corea got off another shot for the Monarchs in the 83rd minute that sailed just high of the crossbar.

Misericordia out-shot the Monarchs 25-3 including 15-1 in the first half and 16-1 in shots on goal. Tara Bender and Jess Schenfeld split time in goal for King's with each making five saves.

King's will look to rebound from the tough loss on Wednesday when they host Wilkes University in an important MAC Freedom match at 7 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.
