RYE, NY (November 17, 2018) - Nine different Valiants scored as the host Manhattanville College women's ice hockey team defeated King's College 9-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Playland Ice Casino.
M'Ville (3-0-1, 3-0-1 UCHC, 3-0-1 MAC) opened the game strong with five goals in the first 20 minutes. Amanda Sabia won the opening faceoff and took three quick shots putting two on goal. Sabia found the back of the net on her fourth attempt when she picked up a rebound in a scramble in front of the net and knocked in the first goal of the game 39 seconds in.
The Monarchs (1-7-0, 0-6-0 UCHC. 0-2-0 MAC) fought hard to even up the score and hard a good opportunity in the seventh minute when
Mary Deyell stole the puck at blue line with just one defender in between her and the goalie but her shot sailed wide. The Valiants respond on the other end of ice with a backhanded shot by Erica Sandilands at 7:23 to take a 2-0 lead. Two minutes later Holly Meredith sent a slap shot from just inside blue line for a third M'Ville goal. Zoey Pellowitz added to the lead with a shorthanded goal from right side that hit the left pipe and went into the net for the fourth goal of the period. As time winded down in the period Pellowitz sent a shot towards a group in front of net that Adelle Clark redirected and into the back of the net with three seconds left.
The Valiants scored two quick goals in the second period as Diana Piacquadio scored from the left wing at 4:18 and then Nicole Mensi followed that up not even a minute later with a goal to increase the lead to 7-0. Ali Howard closed out the scoring in the period with a power play goal at 9:09. Morgan Wilm was the ninth Valiant to score with a goal 2:07 into the third period.
Kellie Munro kept the Valaints from recording a shutout with an unassisted goal at 9:21 of the third period. The goal was the second of the season for the sophomore.
Erin King, Josée Aitken, and Munro had two shot each for the Monarchs.
Kiva Sierra Stoltz made a season-high 48 saves in net. The sophomore made 16 saves in the first period, 15 in the second, and 17 in the third.
12 different Valiants recorded a point in the game with four players recording more than one point. Sabia led the Valiants with three points on one goal and an assist. Meredith, Pellowitz, and Howard recorded two points on one goal and an assist. Taylor Elias picked up the win in goal making 10 saves.
King's will be back in action next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Rhode Island to face Nichols College at Levy Rink. Game time for Friday is set for 6:40 p.m. while Saturday's game will begin at 3:40 p.m. in Harrisville.
