SALEM, VA (November 17, 2018) — The Monarchs wrestling team competed in the Southeast Region Duals fighting hard but ultimately dropping to Bluefield College, Southern Virginia University and Otterbein University.
 
In the first dual the Monarchs faced Bluefield. Dakota Quickwon his match by pinning William Anders with just two seconds left in the first period and earning King's first six points. Matt Sparksalso won his match against Gerron Poston by fall early on in battle. Anthony Harmon-Millergot the third pin of the dual within the first minute.
 
FreshmanKade Kravitswas able to scramble with his opponent and get a few takedowns but eventually dropped in the long run 12-7. Rene Sousaand Nick Pricewould also fall in a decision and Nick Palazzolowas taken down by pin. King's fell 33-18 to Bluefield. 
 
Starting against Southern Virginia, Quick won another match but this time in a 8-7 decision followed by Spark's 12-3 major decision victory. Sousa also contributed points winning 5-4 after hitting a key reversal in the third that would solidify his victory. 
 
Palazzolo worked the whole match and walked out with a 12-6 decision for his first win of the season. There were a few times where the freshman would almost get the pin to close out the match but couldn't hold it. 
 
It was a highly defensive contest for Price who lost 3-6 in a tough match fought by both wrestlers. Kravits lost 10-7, falling behind after a strong start against Chris Fletcher. The Monarchs lost the dual 24-13.
 
In the last dual, King's battled Otterbein. In a 43-8 loss, Sparks and Kravits would produce the only two wins for the Monarchs. 
 
Sparks dominated winning by major decision 14-4 really controlling his opponent the whole match while Kravits also won by MD 9-0. Kravits was able to combat his opponents stalling with a takedown halfway through the first period and sticking with it throughout. 
 
Sousa and Price faced a pin while Quick lost in a decision and Palazzolo in a major decision. 
 
King's gears up to compete in the Messiah Petrofes Invitational on November 30 and December 1, 2018 in Grantham, PA.
