WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 3, 2018) -- Visiting Lebanon Valley College scored three goals in the opening 7:09 of the game and used that lead to pick up a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over the King's College men's ice hockey team in action from the Revolution Ice Center Saturday afternoon.
The Dutchmen (2-1-0, 1-0-0 UCHC, 1-0-0 MAC) scored just 53 seconds into the game, as Brett Johnson scored with help from Justin Hall and Zach Balodis to make the score 1-0. The Dutchmen would get goals from Tino Alunni and Travis Hall over the next six minutes to take a 3-0 lead at the intermission.
Lebanon Valley added to its lead with two more goals in the second, but King's answered at 19:01 of the second on a
Jamie Lukas unassisted goal. The goal was the first of the season for Lukas, who brought the puck up the right wing, shielded a defender and flipped the pick over the goalkeeper's left shouder for the tally.
Early on in the third period, King's cut the LVC lead to three as
Luciano Bucci won a face-off to
Christian La Croix, who one-timed the bouncing puck over the glove hand of Matt Forslund for the goal. It was La Croix's team-leading second goal of the season, as he scored Friday evening against Elmira as well.
Unfortunately, the Dutchmen scored on the next shift to regain the four-goal lead and added another at 13:34 to finish the scoring.
Brandon Daigle made 28 saves in relief action, including stopping 13 shots in the second period. Matt Forslund made 27 saves on 29 shots for the Dutchmen, as LVC outshot the Monarchs 42-29 on the contest.
Johnson and Travis Acker led Lebanon Valley with three points apiece, while Alunni tallied two goals on the contest.
The Monarchs (0-4-0, 0-2-0 UCHC, 0-1 MAC) will now continue its five-game home stand next weekend, hosting Chatham University in Revolution Ice Centre at 7 p.m. in action from Pittston, PA.
