Women’s Ice Hockey Falls In Series Opener At Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY (November 9, 2018) – Host Nazareth College jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one period in a 14-0 victory over the King's College women's ice hockey team in the first of two games between the teams this weekend.

The Golden Flyers (5-0-0, 1-0-0 UCHC) took advantage on an early Monarchs penalty with a power play goal 2:10 into the game. King's (1-4-0, 0-3-0) committed four penalties in the first period with Nazareth taking advantage of three of the power play opportunities with goals. The Golden Flyers scored three of their goals in the first period off rebounded shots that were saved. Taylor Hudon scored twice in the period while Keeley Rose recorded four assists to lead the Nazareth attack.

King's came out strong in the second period holding the Flyers to just 14 shots in the period. Kelly McMorrow scored the first goal of the period at the 13:41 mark and Cristina Darby and Stephanie Kubis added goals to give the hosts a 9-0 advantage after 40 minutes of action.

Nazareth found the back of the net five times in the third period including two goals by Rose to set the final score. Rose led the Golden Flyers with two goals and four assists while Emily Kromer recorded two goals and two assists. Nikolle Van Stralen and Hudon scored two goals apiece. 10 different players scored for Nazareth while 13 recorded at least one point. Adrianna Brehm made 14 saves in net to pick up the shutout.

The Monarchs were led by Gracen Mahoney with six shots and 14 faceoff wins in 35 attempts. Caitlin Redden and Maggie Gould had three shots each while Erin King and Tessa Schaefer-Flynn recorded two apiece. Kiva Sierra Stoltz allowed four goals and made nine saves in goal. Emma Zeveney relieved her in the first period and made 25 saves and allowed five goals in 27:25 minutes of work. Brittany Rose made 16 saves in the third period.

The teams will conclude the weekend series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex in Rochester.
