Monarch Wrestling Match Notes - Lycoming Duals

WILKES-BARRE, PA (December 14, 2018) — King's College wrestling travels to Williamsport, PA over winter break to compete in the Lycoming Duals, Monday, December 17. At the duals hosted by Lycoming College, the Monarchs will face Penn Tech College, Muhlenberg College, Lycoming and University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

Last Time Out: King's competed in the Messiah Petrofes Invitational in Grantham, PA.  Matt Sparks and Dakota Quick both finished their run at the tournament in fourth place among the consolation brackets while the team ended 11th out of 15 teams. 
 
The Book on the Monarchs:
  • The Monarchs saw action against Penn College and Muhlenberg during the Ned McGinley Invitational.
  • Dakota Quick and Matt Sparks finished 4th at Messiah Petrofes invitational.
  • Junior Quick has a record of 11-8 with nine wins being by fall.
  • Sparks has a season record of 15-6 and already has 30 takedowns on the season which accounts for half of the team's total.
  • Kade Kravits has been good wrestling on the mat with four reversals, four near falls, and five escapes on the season.
  • Rene Sousa has recorded a total 12 escapes from bottom on the year.
 
The Book on the Wildcats:
  • Penn College went 3-0 at the Keystone Duals hosted by Keystone College this past weekend. The Wildcats knocked off the host, 29-17, handled SUNY Ulster, 35-12, and beat Thaddeus Stevens, 24-9.
  • Penn College is 5-3 in dual meets this season.
  • Nine of the victories from the Wildcats was from pin fall.
  • At the Ned McGinley Invitational, Penn College took 11th place overall while Dylan Otis finished third at heavyweight and Jared Mooney fourth at 197.
  • Otis leads the team in wins with 32 on the season and just nine losses.
  • Nicolas Bruce is the team leader in pins so far recording 16.
The Book on the Mules:
  • The Muhlenberg wrestling team came home from the Petrofes Invitational with its best showing in more than a quarter-century, coming in third out of 15 teams. 
  • The Mules had 10 place winners out of the 19 competitors they sent to the two-day meet to place in the top three for the first time since the 1992-93 squad finished second.
  • Senior Jimmy Fratantoni was Muhlenberg's top individual, coming in second at 184. He dropped a 7-3 decision in the final to the 2018 MAC champion from Messiah.
  • Junior Austin Sherman (141) and senior Gennaro Cerminara (197) posted fifth-place finishes, while freshmen Billy Moore (133), Greg Baum (149) and Luca Colestock (197) came in sixth.
  • Muhlenberg tied with NYU at the Ned McGinley Invitational for fifth and had junior Austin Sherman sweep the 141-pound bracket.
The Book on the Warriors:
  • Lycoming won both duals at the Thiel Tri-Meet, beating Penn State- Behrend 42-8 and Thiel 39-6.
  • The Warriors had five wrestlers win both of their bouts for the meet while seven others won a single match.
  • The team is currently on a three-match win streak.
  • Joe Santomarco (8-2), Trevor Corl (8-2) and Garrett Wesneski (8-1) are all tied with the most wins for the season so far with eight.
  • Ryan Bohringer leads the team in pins recording five while his overall record is 5-4 making all of his victories by pin fall.
The Book on the Panthers:
  • The Panthers had an exceptional showing at the Alfred State Open having all of their wrestlers who competed placing in the top three.
  • Derek Ridgeway captured the 165 weight class win while Mitch Dowd won the 197 weight class.
  • Colton Davis (133), Quentin Ellis (184) and Daniel Sibel (197) finished second in their weight classes.
  • Neiko Kuntz (141), Victor Elias (157) and Nathan Powley (174) each placed third in their weight classes.
  • The Panthers overall win-loss record for the season is 52-74.

Up Next: The Monarchs are off until January when they head to The College of New Jersey where they face the host and then New York University on Friday, January 4 in a double header.
