CORTLAND, NY (December 8, 2018) – Grace Schnorr recorded her first career hat trick and added an assist to lead the host SUNY Cortland to a 7-0 non-conference victory over the King's College women's ice hockey team on Saturday afternoon from the Alumni Arena in Cortland.
Schnorr scored twice in the first period to give the Red Dragons (3-5-3) the lead going into the first intermission. The sophomore's first goal was unassisted when her shot from the right wing snuck just inside the right pipe 2:39 into the game. Her second goal came off a pass from Emily Rose at the 13:36 mark.
In the second period the Red Dragons added to the lead 47 into the period as Rose found the back of the net off a deflected pass from Schnorr. Schnorr made it 4-0 with her third goal at 12:22 of the period. Emily King and Carly Weigold added goals in the period to give the hosts a 6-0 advantage. Teryn Field set the final score with her first goal of the season in the third period.
11 Red Dragons recorded a point in the game as Schnorr led the way with four. Rose and King added two points on a goal and an assist apiece while Quinn Metcalfe and Olivia Wilburn had two assists each. Cortland held a 54-6 shot advantage and score on two of their four power play chances. Chelsea Allain recorded her first career shutout in net stopping all six shots she faced.
Mary Deyell led the Monarchs (1-12-0) with two shots on goal while
Meghan Mietlicki,
Maggie Gould,
Josée Aitken, and
Tessa Schaefer-Flynn had a shot each.
Gracen Mahoney won 14 of 29 faceoffs while
Kellie Munro won eight of 14.
Emma Zeveney allowed six goals and made 29 saves before being relieved for
Kiva Sierra Stoltz in the second period. Stoltz stopped 18 of the 19 shots she faced.
King's will now be off for the holidays and the semester break before starting up the second half of the season in January. The Monarchs will return to the ice on January 12, 2019 for the start of a two-game series at United Collegiate Hockey Conference foe William Smith College. KC and WSC will play at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Geneva, NY before wrapping up the series at 4 p.m. on Sunday from The Cooler.
