MONARCH MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS FDU-FLORHAM IN MAC FREEDOM SEMIFINAL

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The King's College men's tennis team advanced to the program's first MAC Freedom Championship match since 2015 with a 5-3 victory over FDU-Florham in the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre.

The second-seeded Monarchs improved to 14-6 overall and defeated the Devils for the second time this year. The third-seeded Devils see their season come to an end with a 15-5 record.

The Devils recorded the first point of the match when their number two doubles team of Chris Ly and Chris Fiorenza defeated the team of Austin Mackey and Jason Homschek 8-1. Nathan Carl and Tyler Millan quickly evened the score at 1 with an 8-3 victory at number one doubles. The momentum of the match came down to the final doubles match and Terry Briggs and Cameron Tuck came away with an 8-6 victory to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead going into singles play. Briggs and Tuck were down 5-4 before rallying for the important victory.

Millan won his number two singles match easily by scores on 6-1, 6-0. FDU-Florham picked up 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0 victories at number three and number six. Mackey recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory at number four singles while Tuck won 7-5, 6-3 to give the Monarchs the five points they needed to win the match. Carl's number one singles match was unfinished after he lost the first set 7-5 but was up 5-2 in the second.

King's will now face top-seeded Wilkes University in the Championship on Saturday at the Ralston Athletic Complex. The Colonels made quick work of DeSales University 5-0 in the other semifinal. No time has been set yet for Saturday's Championship.
