DeCamillo Scores Twice To Lead Monarchs To 2-0 Victory Over Wells

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 12, 2018) – Junior Aidan DeCamillo scored a career-high two goals to lead the King's College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Wells College on Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.

King's (3-2-1) put together another impressive performance as they outshot the Express 24-2 including 14-0 in the second half. The Monarchs were able to keep the ball in their offensive half of the field much of the match and dictated the pace of play.

KC had their first look at the goal early in the seventh minute after a foul 35 yards out. Ryan Romeo lined up the free kick and sent a shot that sailed just high of the goal. The Monarchs kept the pressure on and earned three consecutive corner kicks. On the third kick by DeCamillo, August Axtman was able to get a head on the ball and sent it towards to left post. The ball seemed headed for the first of the match but an Express defender was able to keep it out of net and cleared it out of danger.

Late in the 10th minute Quentin Szeker-Cortes sent a long pass up the left side towards DeCamillo. DeCamillo beat the Wells keeper to the ball and header it away from him, gathered the ball and then drove it into the back of the net for his first goal of the year.

Wells was able to get their first shot off in the 18th minute when Chrisitan Garavito found space from distance. Owen Geedey was ready for the shot and knocked it away. KC responded by almost scoring again two minutes later. Szeker-Cortes sent a cross into the box from the left side that Liam McLoughlin got a head on. His shot hit the post and the Express were able to grab the rebound and kick the ball away from further danger.

The Monarchs took four corner kicks in a row during the 22nd through 24th minutes with McLoughlin finding open space for a shot that sailed high off the fourth kick. The Express were able to get off their only other shot of the game in the 27th minute when Pete Paluch fired one off from distance. Geedet had no trouble making the save to keep the shutout intact.

The second half was more of the same for the Monarchs. DeCamillo started the half with a shot from the middle of the box that was right at the Express keeper off a cross from McLoughlin. A few minutes later McLoughlin found space to get a shot off that went right of the net. In the 57th minute DeCamillo sent a corner kick into the middle of the box that the Express tried to clear away. Romeo blocked the attempted clear and sent a rocket towards the goal that Cam Davis had to make a great play to keep from going into the back of the net.

A few minutes later Romeo was able to have another great look at the goal but his header off a corner from DeCamillo sailed high. The Monarchs were able to find space to get off shots that went high and wide until the 72nd minute when Aidan Oyler put one on goal from 25 yards out that was saved by the keeper.

DeCamillo recorded his second goal of the game when Davis tried to fall on a cross by the Monarchs. However, the ball squeaked away from him and a streaking DeCamillo was there to knock home his second goal of the match.

The Monarch defense pitched their fourth consecutive shutout while DeCamillo recorded two goals on six shots. Oyler, Romeo, Szeker-Cortes, and McLoughlin had three shots each. Owen Geedey made two saves to pick up his 26th career shutout. King's took 14 corner kicks while defending just two.

King's will continue their five-match home stand on Saturday night when they face SUNY New Paltz at 7 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.
