Monarch Volleyball Game Notes - Hartwick Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 13, 2018) – The King's College women's volleyball team will look to rebound from a defeat for the first time in 2018, as the Monarchs travels to the Empire State for four matches at the Hartwick Invitational Friday and Saturday. King's will battle host Hartwick College and SUNY Poly on Friday evening, while taking on Hilbert College and Oneonta on Saturday.

Last Time Out: Senior Rachel Miller posted her 1,000th career kill Wednesday evening, as the outside hitter tallied 28 kills to pace the Monarchs in a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to FDU-Florham in McGrane Gymnasium. Miller became the seventh player in program history to get to 1,000 kills, while her 28 terminations were a career-high. King's led 2-0 in the match, but couldn't put the Devils away as FDU-Florham rallied to take the set in five.

The Book On The Monarchs (6-1):
  • The Monarchs have played stout defense in the back row this year thus far, as King's is holding teams to a .062 hitting percentage, the best in the MAC Freedom.
  • KC is currently third in the conference in kills per set, posting 11.58 a game through 26 sets of play.
  • The serve receive for the Monarchs in 2018 has been strong, allowing only 0.88 service aces per set, the best number in the MAC Freedom.
  • Freshman middle Danielle Kitchner ranks No. 7 in the MAC Freedom in hitting percentage, posting a .273 rate through the opening seven matches.
  • Miller leads the MAC Freedom in kills per set this season with 4.15, as her 108 on the year is the second-most in the conference.
  • Freshman setter Wiatt Hoffmann is fourth in the conference in helpers per set with 9.31.
  • Newcomer Taylor Mueller tallied a career-best 35 digs against FDU-Florham, and is now second in the conference in digs per set with 5.72. The 35 defensive saves were also the most in a MAC Freedom match this season.
  • King's five-set defeat was its first since last September 16 against Nazareth College, while the five-set loss in MAC Freedom action was the first for King's since September 16, 2015 at DeSales University.
The Book on The Hawks (2-5):
  • The Hawks of Hartwick College are coming off a five-set non-conference loss last weekend to SUNY Canton at Keuka College. Hartwick is 2-5 on the season, having defeated Alfred State and Buffalo State.
  • Hartwick's go-to offensive player is Maria Sorriento, who has posted 108 of the team's 274 kills this season.
  • Myla Dobson is second on the team with 51 kills and 1.82 terminations a set, while Celia Gagnon is third on the squad with 1.28 a game.
  • Jamie Ready is the offensive quarterback of the team, dishing out 7.40 assists per set.
  • Libero Katie Boak has a team-high 2.97 digs per set, while Sorriento and Ready each are averaging 1.70 digs a game.
  • King's is 3-4 against Hartwick all-time.
The Book on The Wildcats (2-6):
  • The Wildcats of SUNY Poly are 2-6 on the season but have played some difficult squads including No. 10 MIT.
  • SUNY Poly is coming off a 3-0 win over the Sage College on Monday evening, having also started the season with a 3-1 win over Buffalo State.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Karlie King leads the team with 3.12 terminations per set, while Brittany Adams also averaged 2.43 kills per game.
  • Freshman right side Hayley Lawter is second on the team in kills with 38.
  • Senior setter Sydney Johnson leads the team in assists per set with 7.96, also adding 2.58 digs a game.
  • Freshman libero Amanda Batten is posting 3.15 digs a set, best on the team.
  • King's is 4-0 against SUNY Poly all-time.
The Book on The Hawks (0-5):
  • The Hilbert Hawks have struggled out of the gate this season, falling in all five of their matches and having dropped all 15 sets played.
  • Hilbert is led by Torianna LeWand, who has tallied 27 kills and 1.80 terminations a set.
  • Ashley Repine also posted 12 kills, while Natassia West and Sara Trzepkowski each have five terminations on the year.
  • Hilbert has posted 3.47 kills per set, which ranks seventh-worst in the nation.
  • LeWand leads the team with 31 digs on the season.
  • This will be the first meeting with Hilbert.
The Book on The Red Dragons (2-6):
  • Oneonta is currently in the midst of a four-match losing skid, having fallen to Coast Guard in three sets its last time out.
  • The Red Dragons move the ball around well, having three players with 50 or more kills through eight matches.
  • Oneonta is led by the 62 kills from Victoria Moulder, while Clara Culeton leads the team with 2.40 kills per set.
  • Jessica Fowler is the team's top setter, handing out 8.54 assists per set.
  • Katelyn McDonough and Lindsay Pelaccio are the top defensive players for the Red Dragons, posting 63 and 55 digs, respectively.
  • The Red Dragons hold an 11-3 all-time against King's.
