FULL TOURNAMENT RESULTS
WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 16, 2018) -- The King's College men's tennis team got its start for the 2018-19 season this weekend, competing in the King's Collese Fall Invitational from Kirby Park Saturday and Sunday.
The tournament consisted of seven singles flights, while the doubles action was set into four doubles brackets. Junior
Tyler Millan competed in the top bracket for the Monarchs, and won his quarterfinal matchup with Naitik Butani of Marywood 6-0, 6-1.
Millan would see his run through the tournament end in the semifinals, as he dropped an exciting 5-7, 6-1, 10-7 match with Juan Huertas from Manhattanville.
At No. 2 singles,
Austin Mackey fell in his opening match of the tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 scoreline. Freshman
Owen Hegarty earned a bye into the semifinals at No. 3 singles, and won a 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 match, moving into the finals. Hegarty would drop his finals match at No. 3 singles though, as he fell in a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Charles Swope of Scranton.
In No. 4 singles, junior
Cameron Tuck defeated Ben Mead of Cabrini University 6-1, 6-3, making it into the semifinal rounds of the flight. At No. 5 singles, freshman
Nick Harth defeated Joey Burridge of Marywood 6-0, 6-0, but the Monarch freshman would fall 6-4, 6-0 to Nick Tilley from Cabrini.
In the sixth flight, sophomore
Jason Homschek battled hard in his first match before dropping a 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 match in a super-tiebreaker. He would rebound though in the consolation bracket, winning the consolation title with an 8-5 win over Nick Bongiorno for Manhattanville.
In doubles, Millan and Mackey dropped their quarterfinal match to Cabrini University at the top flight, while
Cameron Tuck and
Owen Hegarty fell 8-1 at the No. 2 position. At No. 3. the tandem of Homshek and Harth dropped an 8-2 decision to Matt DeMaria and Nick Tilley of Cabrini.
The Monarchs will be back in action next Sunday afternoon, taking on Keystone College in action from Kirby Park.
