Treslar Leads Field Hockey To 3-0 Conference Win At Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA (September 21, 2018) -- Sophomore Jolee Treslar scored the game-winning goal and assisted on two other strikes, leading the King's College field hockey team to a 3-0 road win over Delaware Valley University in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener Friday evening.

The hosts came out quickly and tested the Monarch defense early, pinning King's into its own end through the first seven minutes. The defensive unit for KC was strong though, as sophomore goalkeeper Brianne Maluda made a save in the second minute and the Monarchs held DVU without a shot after a penalty corner.

The Monarchs would go on the offensive after that though, taking the game's next eight shots over the next 10 minutes. It looked like King's had jumped on top in the 13th minute, as freshman Hannah Robbins fired a rebound of off a Treslar shot towards the cage but it was stopped by defender Sadie Strober.

The Aggie goalkeeper Kita Konerth kept King's off the board during the stretch as well, making four saves before Delaware Valley took a timeout at 16:59. DVU had its best chance of the first half at 26:17, getting a shot off a penalty corner but the attempt was blocked. That's where the game would stay going into intermission, as KC held a 10-5 shot edge at the break.

Delaware Valley came out of the break charging, taking the first four shots of the stanza, with three needing saves from Maluda. King's switched the field soon there after, and forced the Aggies into their own end. The Monarchs finally broke through in the 54th minute, starting a 3:12 stretch that saw King's saw three goals.

The first goal came at 53:56, as Treslar received a pass from Kelley O'Keefe on the right side and slotted it to the left of the keeper to give the Monarchs the lead. The barrage of offense for King's continued and after a defensive save from DVU's Aimee MacFarland, senior Kelsey Gabriele registered her fifth goal of the year, finishing into an empty net after Treslar drew the keeper and passed across to Gabriele for the score.

Just 1:23 later in the contest, Treslar fired another shot and O'Keefe knocked in the rebound to give King's a 3-0 edge. That would be plenty for the Monarchs, as they cruised to the shutout win to move to 1-0 in conference action.

King's outshot Delaware Valley 18-9 on the contest, led by the five from Treslar, tying her season-high for shots in a game. Her two assists were also a career-high, and marked the first time since September 28, 2016 that a Monarch posted two assists in a game when Brianna DiMaggio posted two in a 4-1 win vs. Keystone College.

Maluda made five stops in cage for the Monarchs before handing off duties to Dervla Mcearlean, who completed the shutout in her 10:19 minutes of action. King's will now return home to finish a four games in seven days stretch Sunday, hosting St. Thomas Aquinas College at 1 p.m. in non-conference action from McCarthy Stadium.
