LANGHORNE, PA (September 4, 2018) -- The King's College women's volleyball team moved to an unblemished 3-0 on the young season Tuesday evening, knocking off host Cairn University 3-1 in non-conference action with scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-12 and 25-16. Senior
Rachel Miller posted a season-best 19 kills to lead the way for the Monarchs, hitting .444 for the night.
The Monarchs controlled play in the opening set, posting 12 kills and hitting .250 while holding the Highlanders to .152 attacking to take the early edge. Cairn rallied to knot the score at one set apiece, hitting a match-best .333 in the second game while posting 14 kills.
King's would compose itself and had no problems the final two sets, thanks to some solid defense and the hitting of Miller. The needed 36 attempts to get to her 19 kills, finishing with 10 digs to add yet another double-double to her career ledger and the second this season in three matches.
Freshman setter
Wiatt Hoffmann continued her solid play early on in her career, chalking up a solid double-double of 34 assists and 11 digs, adding two assisted blocks. Fellow newcomer
Grace Frati hit .250 for the night, connecting for 11 terminations and six dig, and freshman
Becca Goldberg also registered six kills.
Newcomer
Taylor Mueller finished with a team-best 11 digs, and fellow back-row specialist and freshman Toni Gallaso posted 10 digs as well. Defensively, freshman
Sarah Hayward chalked up four total blocks including three of the solo variety, leading the team with two aces as well.
Lyntia Gwess led all players with 23 kills, posting 14 digs as well, and teammate Haley Sheehan chalked up 12 kills and 10 digs for the Highlanders (1-3).
King's will turn around and open its home schedule less than 24 hours later, hosting Clarks Summitt University Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. in McGrane Gymnasium in more non-conference play.
