Monarch Men’s Soccer Game Notes – Juniata, Berkeley

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 7, 2018) – The King's College men's soccer team will have a pair of home matches this weekend as the Monarchs host Juniata College on Saturday and Berkeley College (NJ) on Sunday.

Last Time Out: King's played Scranton to a scoreless draw on a hot afternoon in Scranton on Wednesday. The Monarchs outshot the Royals 17-9 including a barrage of five shots in the second overtime period.

The Book On The Monarchs (0-2-1):
  • The Monarchs enter the weekend with an 0-2-1 record and are still looking for their first goal of the season. King's has played very well defensively in all three games only to have late goals spoil what otherwise were good showings in their first two games last weekend at home.
  • King's is outshooting their opponents 44-19 this year and have put 17 shots on goal through three games. The Monarchs are ranked fourth in the MAC Freedom with 14.7 shots per game. The team is also third in the conference with 18 corner kicks taken
  • Juniors Matthew Hesse and Aidan DeCamillo along with sophomore Liam McLoughlin lead the team with six shots each.
  • Senior Owen Geedey leads the MAC Freedom and is eighth in the nation with 296:35 minutes played this year. He is fourth in the conference with a goals against average of 0.607 and third with a save percentage of .833
The Book On The Eagles (3-0):
  • Juniata enters Saturday's match with a 3-0 record after rallying for three second half goals in a 3-2 victory over St. Vincent on Tuesday. The Eagles are playing their first road match of the year after three straight one-goal victories in Huntingdon.
  • Junior Wyatt Page leads the team and is tied for third in the Landmark Conference with six points on two goals and two assists. He is second in the conference with 12 shots taken.
  • Sophomore Michael Realbuto has two goals for the Eagles while freshmen Bass Diakhoumpa and Nick Sinapius have scored a goal each. Junior Johnny King has contributed two assists while senior Matt Matylewicz and sophomore Jacob Grove have added an assist each.
  •  Junior Andrew Yeich picked up the first two victories of the year for the Eagles in goal making six saves and allowing one goal in 192:03 minutes of action. His .047 goals against average and .857 save percentage are second in the Landmark amongst keepers who have played more than 150 minutes.
  • The Eagles are second in the Landmark with 44 shots and have 26. Juniata has taken 11 corner kicks this year.
  • King's holds a 18-6-2 record against the Eagles in a series dating back to 1982. The Monarchs are 7-1 in the series when playing in Wilkes-Barre and have won or drawn in the past 16 overall meetings. King's won last year's meeting 6-0 in Huntingdon after back-to-back 2-1 victories in 2015 and 2016 that needed extra time. The Monarchs have outscored the Eagles 22-4 in the series since 2009 when the programs began meeting annually after a six-year hiatus in the series.
The Book On The Knights (1-1-1):
  • Berkeley enters Sunday's match with a 1-1-1 record after recording a scoring outburst of a 9-0 victory over Penn State Hazleton on Tuesday in the team's home opener.
  • The Knights have not allowed a goal since the 17th minute of the season opener at Christendom last weekend.
  • Sebastian Cannizzo and Wender Lima both recorded hat tricks against the Lions to lead the team with six points.
  • Ignacio Sanin has started half of the Knight scoring with five assists on the team's 10 goals. All five of his assists came in Tuesday's rout of Penn State Hazleton. His five assists rank him second in the USCAA Division II.
  • Robert Parker has started all three contests for the Knights this year in net seeing 210 minutes of action. He has allowed two goals and made nine saves for an 0.86 goals against average and .818 save percentage.
  • Berkeley has taken 11 corner kicks this year and outshot teams 53-22.
  • This is the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Up Next: King's will be back in action with a midweek match against Wells College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.
