WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 7, 2018) – The King's College women's volleyball team will continue its five-match home stand on Saturday afternoon, hosting Penn State Brandywine and Gwynedd Mercy University for a non-conference tri-match in McGrane Gymnasium. The Monarchs (4-0) are looking to remain unbeaten, and two victories would give King's its best start to a season since 2015.

Taylor Mueller tied the school record for aces in a match with eight, while also finishing with 23 digs, and fellow newcomer
Wiatt Hoffmann tallied 25 assists and nine digs in the win.

- Senior Rachel Miller is on the precipice of a huge accomplishment, as the outside hitter is just 38 kills shy of 1,000 for her career.
- Head coach Bernie Kachinko is only two wins shy of 500 for his career, a tenure that has spanned 27 years as the head mentor of the women's volleyball team at King's College.
- Kachinko is 35th among current women's volleyball coaches in the NCAA in active wins.
- The Monarchs have been serving well this year thus far, ranking first in the MAC Freedom in total aces with 48 while their ace total is 48th nationally.
- King's has been stout defensively, holding teams to just .029 hitting for the season, which is 19th in NCAA Division III and tops in the MAC Freedom.
- Freshman Taylor Mueller ranks first in the MAC Freedom in aces per set with 0.79, and her 11 aces overall also leads the conference.
- Mueller is third in the MAC Freedom in digs per set with 4.79.
- Miller currently leads the conference in total kills with 54.
- Freshman setter Wiatt Hoffmann is third in the conference in total helpers with 123.
The Book on PSU Brandywine (0-1):
- The Lions have played just once this season thus far, dropping a road, non-conference match to Wilkes University Tuesday evening.
- Freshman Jade Maloney started her collegiate career with six kills to pace Brandywine, while adding six digs and an ace.
- Senior Nicolette Napoleon also finished with four kills and six digs in the loss.
- Sophomore Lauren Kelly leads the team with 13 digs, also adding three kills to her ledger.
- The team is hitting .019 so far this year, while posting 17.33 digs per set for the campaign.
- Penn State Brandywine has its first 15 matches this season on the road.
- PSU Brandywine went 25-6 last year, including posting a 25-2 regular season before dropping four at the USCAA National Tournament.
- This is the first meeting between King's and PSU Brandywine.
The Book on Gwynedd Mercy (2-3):
- The Griffins opened the season with three straight losses but have rebounded with two consecutive wins against Lincoln University and Penn State-Abington.
- GMU has been paced offensively by Madelyn Mosser, who is averaging 1.35 kills per set, while Liz Schule is right behind her with 1.06 terminations a game.
- The Griffin offensive unit has struggled to put balls down this season, as its 5.94 kills per set is currently the eighth-lowest in the NCAA.
- Cait Saalfrank has been strong on the back end, as the libero is 55th nationally in digs per set with 5.33. She is also fifth in the AEC with 0.67 aces per set.
- The Griffin defensive unit is holding squads to a .030 hitting percentage, which is 20th nationally and second in the Atlantic East Conference.
- The young Griffin team has a total of 613 career kills as a squad combined.
- King's is 6-0 all-time against Gwynedd Mercy University, taking only two sets all-time off the Monarchs.
