ST. DAVIDS, PA (January 30, 2019) -- Junior post player
Rebecca Prociak posted a career-high 32 points on 9-of-14 shooting, but it wasn't enough as the King's College women's basketball team fell to Eastern University 79-75 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play from The Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
The junior eclipsed her previous personal best of 29 points earned earlier this season at Wesley College. Prociak also posted a career-high 14 free throw makes, going 14-of-16 while adding 17 rebounds and seven assists.
King's trailed 24-20 after the opening stanza, as Eastern shot 57.9 percent in the period thanks to an 18-10 edge in points in the paint. Both teams would score 19 points in the second quarter, but EU benefited from six second-chance points to take a four-point lead into the halftime break.
In the third, Eastern upped its lead to as many as nine points at 58-49 with 2:32 to go in the third quarter after a layup by Megan Bell. EU eventually took a seven-point edge into the fourth period, as the Eagles once again outscored King's on the boards with a 9-4 edge in second chance points.
The Monarchs would make a charge in the fourth though, taking a lead at 68-67 after a
Alexis Steeber layup with help from Prociak. Brianna Young-Harris gave the Eagles the lead back on the next possession, but freshman
Samantha Rajza made 1-of-2 from the line to tie the game at 69 with 3:31 to go.
KIng's led 75-74 after a layup from Rajza, but Eastern regained its lead after a running layip from Regie Robinson with 20 seconds to go. The Monarchs turned the ball over on the next possession, and following two free throws from Naomi Harris, the Monarchs missed a three-pointer and Harris hit 1-of-2 from the line make it a two-possession game and earn the win for Eastern.
Steeber added 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting, posting five boards as well and Rajza chipped in with 14 points off the bench for King's. The Monarchs shot 41 percent from the floor, making just 5-of-20 on three-point field goals.
Eastern had four players in double-digits, led by the 15 points from Minika Glenn. Harris finished with with 12 points, and Jaelyn Harris and Viki Kneis each added 13 points for the Eagles.
King's returns to play on the road at FDU-Florham Saturday at 1 p.m. in more MAC Freedom action from Madison, NJ.
