Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Daigle Makes 43 Saves Against Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 31, 2019) – Brandon Daigle was strong in goal for the King's College men's ice hockey team on Thursday night with 43 saves as United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) leader Wilkes University used a big third period to pull away from the Monarchs for a 4-0 victory at the Toyota Sportsplex at Coal Street Park in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game.

The Colonels (14-5-1, 10-3-1 UCHC, 6-1-0 MAC) stayed atop the UCHC standings with the win while inching closer to clinching the MAC title. King's (1-20-0, 1-13-0 UCHC, 0-7-0 MAC) put together a tough fight in the crosstown rivalry using strong defense against Division III's ninth ranked offense.

The Monarchs held the Colonels off the board until 8:26 of the second period when Brendan Logan received a centering pass from Dylan Kuipers and went top shelf for his fifth goal of the season. Daigle was strong in goal making 29 saves through the first two periods with 10 in the first and 19 in the second.

Wilkes, who have been a very good third period team lately, scored three times in the final period to set the final score. Tyson Araujo made it 2-0 at 4:08 of the third when he scored on the left wing off a pass from Donald Flynn for his ninth goal of season. The Colonels increased their advantage at 10:27 when Tyler Barrow scored his 12th goal on the season on the left wing on a pass from Michael Gurska. Phil Erickson wrapped up the scoring with 54 seconds left with his fourth short-handed goal of the year.

Jamie Lukas finished with three shots on goal for King's while Christian La Croix had two. Tyler O'Mara, Orion Linnehan, Cameron Anklewich, Michael DiSchiavi, Luke Damiano, and Nicholas Gullo recorded one shot each. Luciano Bucci had another strong night in the faceoff circle winning 14 of his 23 attempts.

Barrow and Logan led the Colonels with a goal and an assist each. Brandon Gordon made 11 saves to record his 12th victory of the season.

King's was called for three penalties and killed off all three Wilkes power play chances. The Colonels had six penalties for 20 minutes and did not allow a King's goal on five power play opportunities.

The Monarchs will next be in action next weekend when they host Manhattanville College on Friday night and Neumann University on Saturday in the final home games of the year at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
