Millan To Play Sunday In MAC Individual Championships

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 12, 2019) -- Senior Tyler Millan earned his place in the 2019 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championships No. 1 bracket semifinals on Saturday, as play on the first day of action concluded from Kirby Park. 

In the first round, Millan took on Zack Hemond of Misericordia University and earned an easy 6-3, 6-2 win to move into the quarterfinals. Once there, Millan knocked off Andrew Bookman of Messiah College 7-5, 6-2 and will now face Mike Ellis of Wilkes University Sunday in the semifinals.

Marc Feliu of Stevens Institute of Technology and Andrew Sturniolo of Stevenson are still alive on the other side of the bracket. Ellis was a winner over Danny Lynn, who was the No. 3 seed in the tournament as he picked up a 7-6 (7), 5-7, 10-6 win to face Millan. 

At No. 2 singles, Austin Mackey topped James McKane of Hood College in the opening round 6-2, 6-2 but would fall to Alex Mantsevich from Messiah College 6-4, 6-1. Sophomore Nick Harth would drop his opening match of the tournament in the No. 3 singles flight 6-1, 6-1 to Jarod Snader of Messiah College. 

The No. 4 singles bracket saw Cameron Tuck fall 6-2, 6-0 to Reed Morris of Lebanon Valley College, but Jason Homschek rattled off a straight set win at 6-4, 6-3 over Derrick Boltz of Alvernia in the opening round in No. 5 singles action. Homschek would be eliminated though, dropping a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Ahmed Kanan of DeSales University. 

At No. 6 singles, Nick Holland earned a bye into the quarterfinals but would be eliminated 6-0, 6-0 by Chris Fiorenza of FDU-Florham to round out King's singles action. 

In doubles play, Harth and Millan started the day in the No. 1 doubles bracket with a 8-6 win over Snader and Bookman of Messiah. In the quarterfinals, the pairing of Harth and Millan would drop a contested 8-6 match to Bennett and Mostoller of FDU-Florham. 

In the first round of action at No. 2 doubles, Mackey and Tuck dominated in the first round over Misericordia 8-0, but couldn't keep it going in an 8-4 defeat to Lebanon Valley. 

The opening round wins at doubles continued for King's, as Holland and Homschek breezed by their opponents from Lycoming College 8-2. In the quarterfinals, the duo would run into the No. 1 seed from Stevens, being eliminated 8-0. 

Millan and the rest of the tournament will reconvene Sunday at 9 a.m. from Kirby Park.
