Box Score 2 WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 19, 2019) -- Visiting Cabrini University and Drew University were both able to top the King's College men's tennis team Saturday, as the Monarchs fell to Drew University 5-4 while dropping a 6-3 match with Cabrini in play from Kirby Park.
Drew 5, King's 4
The Monarchs and Rangers were tied at four matches apiece, but Drew was able to pick up a win at No. 5 singles to claim the 5-4 win over the Monarchs.
King's would start quick in doubles action, claming a win at No. 1 doubles as
Tyler Millan and
Austin Mackey earned an 8-6 win over Geoff Diehl and John Dickey. Drew evened up the match at a win apiece at No. 2 doubles, as
Nick Harth and
Cameron Tuck fell for King's 8-2.
The Monarchs would take the 2-1 lead into singles thanks to an 8-7 (5) win at No. 3 doubles as
Jason Homschek and
Nick Holland outlasted their Drew opponents. Millan would pick up his second win of the day at No.1 singles, as he earned a hard fought 7-5, 6-2 win over Diehl to put King's up 3-1.
Drew pulled to 3-2 but King's regained its two-match lead as Mackey earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Unfortunately for the Monarchs, Drew would win the last three matches to pick up the team win.
Cabrini 6, King's 3
In the nightcap, the Monarchs had to make up a 3-0 deficit after doubles and while splitting singles action it wasn't enough as the Cavaliers earned the win. In singles, Millan won his first set at No. 1 6-2 but fell 6-0 in the second. In the 10-point tiebreaker, Millan outlasted CJ LaMantia 13-11 to pick up the victory.
At No. 2 singles, Mackey earned a pair of tiebreak wins in a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3) win, while Holland also earned a straight set victory at 7-5, 7-5.
