Women's Tennis Sweeps Penn College Sunday

KINGSTON, PA (October 20, 2019) -- The King's College women's tennis team was forced to move their match with visiting Penn College inside Sunday morning, but the change didn't affect the Monarchs as they finished fall play with a 9-0 win over the Wildcats. The other scheduled match for Sunday with Lycoming was cancelled due to rain.

In doubles play, King's started the day with wins at all three flights, though Codi Young and Diana Rodriguez earned a walkover win at No. 3 doubles. At the No. 1 spot, newcomer Addy Atkins teammed with Alexis Zalutko to earn an 8-3 win over Alexis Youse and Olivia Eisenhauer.

At the others doubles flight, sophomore Mikayla Reynolds and PJ Kaur were dominant in an 8-0 win over Cassie Shook and Marcie Harman. The Monarchs would win all four contested singles matches as well, as Rodriguez played No. 1 for the first time in her career and picked up a 7-6 (6), 6-2 straight set win.

Lauren Lamarca only dropped one game on the day at No. 3 singles, racing past Cassie Shook 8-1, while Young played Harman and picked up an 8-1 pro-set victory. The most exciting match of the day came at No. 2 singles, as Zalutko and Youse were pushed to a 10-point tiebreak.

Zalutko won the first set 6-0, but Youse responded with a 7-6 (5) win in a breaker. In the super tiebreaker, Zalutko and Youse exchanged points but the Monarch player would eventually outlast her opponent to pick up the win.

King's finished the fall season 3-1, and will pick things back up in February when the bulk of the matches in the 2019-20 season will be played. Make sure to check back at kingscollegeathletics.com for schedule updates for match dates in the spring of 2020.
