CENTER VALLEY, PA (October 30, 2019) -- In their final regular season conference match, the King's College women's volleyball team fell at DeSales University, 3-0, Wednesday night. The Monarchs drop to 20-7 overall, 3-4 in MAC Freedom play, finishing fifth in the MAC Freedom regular season and just missing the playoffs.
The match was led by the Bulldogs as they opened the match with an 11-5 run to control the first set and post the final, 25-16. Set two saw the Monarchs tied early, 1-1, and inch within one, 3-2, off a kill by sophomore
Grace Frati before the Bulldogs used five straight points to take the lead, 8-2, as they led by at least four points the remainder of the set, taking set two 25-13.
In the final set of the match, the Monarchs took their first lead of the match, 4-3, on a kill by sophomore
Becca Goldberg and three Bulldogs errors before DeSales used 7-1 run to take a 10-5 lead that King's could not overcome before falling in the set, 25-15, and the match, 3-0.
Frati and freshman
Marta Pawka led the offense for the Monarchs with six kills each. Sophomore
Wiatt Hoffmann dished out 22 of the team's 26 assists, and sophomores
Taylor Mueller and
Karissa Hartzell anchored the defense, as Mueller totaled 14 and Hartzell had 11. In addition, sophomores
Olivia Bunch,
Cleo Schultz, Goldberg, and Pawka each recorded one block assist for the Monarchs.
As a team, the Monarchs totaled 26 kills off 26 assists, hitting .049 for the match. They also totaled 41 digs and two team blocks in the loss.
The Monarchs finish their 2019 season on Saturday as they head to Penn College for a tri-match against Penn State Abington and the host Wildcats at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
