DOYLESTOWN, PA (October 8, 2019) -- After a tough start to the match, the King's College women's volleyball team rallied to sweep Delaware Valley University in three straight sets, 3-0, to improve to 2-2 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action and 15-3 overall.

This match started in a back-and-forth battle between the Monarchs and Aggies as the score remained tied, 7-7, before the Aggies used a 7-2 run to take the lead, 14-9. Delaware Valley continued the momentum, taking an 18-12 lead and even extending the margin to 22-15 before King's responded, ending the set on an 11-2 run fueled by three kills by sophomore Becca Goldeberg, kills by sophomores
Cleo Schultz and
Christie Brown, and six Delaware Valley errors to post the set final, 26-24.
King's used the momentum from the first set to take control of the match and take sets two and three, 25-12 and 25-11, respectively. In the second set, the Monarchs jumped to an early 8-4 lead, led by Goldberg with three kills. The final set saw a similar story as the Monarchs cruised to a 16-6 lead before posting the set final and taking the match, 3-0.

The sophomore trio of Goldberg,
Wiatt Hoffmann, and
Taylor Mueller led the Monarchs. Goldberg totaled a match-high 15 kills on 33 attempts, hitting .303 for the match. Hoffmann recorded her third double-double of the season, totaling a match-high 29 assists and a match-high tying 18 digs. For the defense, Mueller added another double-digit dig performance with a match-high tying 18. Other top Monarchs for the match were freshman
Marta Pawka who recorded six kills on 13 attempts, hitting .385, and Schultz who totaled a team-high two blocks.
As a team, the Monarchs totaled 38 kills compared to the Aggies 22, while hitting .183 compared to the Aggies' .040. The Monarchs also controlled the battle in service aces (6-2) and digs (57-38).
The Monarchs are back in action on Thursday as they finish their road stretch at Bryn Athyn at 6:00 pm. They return home on Wednesday as they host local MAC Freedom rival Wilkes University in McGrane Gymnasium starting at 7:00 pm.
