DiSchiavi Leads Men’s Ice Hockey In Close Loss At Chatham

VALENCIA, PA (November 15, 2019) --- Sophomore Michael DiSchiavi scored his first career goal and added an assist as the King's College men's ice hockey team dropped a hard fought 5-2 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game at Chatham University on Friday evening.

The Monarchs (1-3-0, 1-3-0 UCHC) got on the board first 8:16 into the game as Isaac Cirinna and Tommy Cahill assisted on DiSchiavi's first goal of the season. The Cougars (1-4-0, 1-1-0 UCHC) evened the score with 4:27 left in the period as Niko Moulakelis lit the lamp for his fourth goal of the season. Chatham took the lead just 10 seconds into the second period as Tristan Simm found the back of the net off assists by Michael Lamison and Lucas Rothe. Kenneth Gill increased the lead to 3-1 with his first goal of the year at 14:36 of the period.

King's would not go away as Cahill cut the lead in half with his second goal of the year 6:35 into the third period. Cirinna and DiSchiavi assisted on the goal as both skaters picked up their second assists of the season. However, Chatham would get an unassisted goal by Simm with just under four minutes to play and then an empty net goal by Jack Schmiedlin to pick up their first win of the season on their home ice.

King's top line was responsible for all six points as DiSchiavi and Cahill recorded a goal and an assist each while Cirinna had two assists. Cahill also won 11 of the 22 faceoff attempts he took. Brandon Daigle made 36 saves in goal including 16 in the final period as King's fought hard to make a comeback.

Chatham held a 41-22 shot advantage with Ricardo Gonzalez making 20 stops in goal to pick up his first win of the season. Simm led the Cougars with two goals while Cory King won 12 of 20 faceoffs. The teams combined for six total penalties in the game with the host Cougars being called for four. Both teams were perfect on the penalty kill.

The Monarchs will return to eastern Pennsylvania and will be back on the ice next Friday when they host cross-town rival Wilkes University at 7 pm from Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston. KC will also be in action next Saturday with their first non-conference game of the year against Bryn Athyn College. Puck drop for Saturday night at Revolution is scheduled for 7 pm also.
