Noeding Tallies First Collegiate Goal In Home Opener

PITTSTON, PA (November 15, 2019) --- Freshman Ali Noeding knocked in her own rebound in the second period for the Monarchs' first goal of the season as the King's College women's ice hockey team fell to visiting Utica College 11-2 at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston on Friday evening.

The Monarchs (0-3-0, 0-3-0 UCHC) played the Pioneers (2-1-0, 2-0-0 UCHC) very tough to begin the game. Utica took advantage of their first power play opportunity of the night with the first goal of the game scored by Maggie Rylott at 8:45 of the first period. The goal was scored with 34 seconds left on KC's penalty kill. Georgiana Santullo made it 2-0 for the visitors with 2:21 left in the period with her first goal of the season.

Shae Counts and Morgan Leib added goals in the first 13 minutes of the second period to give the Pioneers a 4-0 lead before King's got on the board. A little over a minute into KC's power play opportunity Noeding got the puck on a breakaway attempt. Her first shot was stopped in goal by Savannah Gutierrez, but the sophomore goalie was not able to get to her rebounded attempt as Noeding lit the lamp for the first time. Utica responded with their third goal of the period 33 seconds later with Rylott finding the back of the net for the second time. Erica Sloan gave the visitors a 6-1 lead heading into the second intermission with a power play goal with 3:14 left in the period.

The third period belonged to the Pioneers as they scored five goals in a six-minute span to increase their advantage to 11-1. The first goal came at 8:02 of the period followed by goals at 8:18, 10:52, 11:59, and 13:29. Caitlin Redden tallied her first goal of the season and fifth of her career with five seconds left to set the final score. Redden tapped in a saved shot by Mary Deyell. The assist was Deyell's eighth of her career while Tessa Schaefer-Flynn recorded the secondary assist for her first career point.

The Pioneers put 43 shots on goal while King's had 23. The Monarchs did a good job of staying out of the penalty box making just three penalties, but the Pioneers scored on two of their three power play opportunities. Utica had eight penalties called on them in the game and successfully killed seven of the eight power play opportunities for King's.

Noeding led the Monarchs with five shots while Josée Aitken, Maggie Gould, and Redden all took four. Aitken won 12 of her 27 attempts in the faceoff circle. Hannah Bowers made 20 saves while facing 26 shots in her first collegiate start. Kiva Sierra Stoltz played the third period in goal for the Monarchs and made 12 stops.

Rylott recorded a hat trick and finished with four points on three goals and one assist to lead Utica. Sloan added two goals and two assists while Santullo, Ricki Haab, Counts, and Olivia Hirschy all had one goal and two assists. Santullo was also dominate in the faceoff circle for the Pioneers winning 14 of her 16 attempts. Gutierrez finished with 21 saves in goal.

King's will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Nazareth College at Revolution Ice at 5 pm. The Golden Flyers were 7-0 winners over Wilkes on Friday evening.
