WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 23, 2019) -- The King's College men's basketball team out-scored the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays 52-39 in the second half en route to an 87-68 victory in McGrane Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Monarchs improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Monarchs trailed early as Elizabethtown built a five-point lead, 11-6, with 14:47 to go in the first half, but King's scored five-straight on a layup by junior
Pat Mitchell and a three by freshman
Sean Murphy to tie the game, 11-11. A three by sophomore
Patrick Galvin gave the Monarchs their first lead of the game, 14-11 before the Blue Jay regained the lead, 20-16. It was a back-and-forth effort before King's used a 7-1 run to end the half and take a 35-29 lead into the locker room.
King's came out firing in the second half, building a 15-point lead, 46-31, as they connected on three from beyond the arc. The Monarch lead swelled to as much as 26 points on a jumper by Galvin with 7:55 remaining in the game, and King's never looked back before posting the final, 87-68.
It was a balanced scoring effort for the Monarchs as four players reached double-figures in the win. Senior
Joe Lonardi and sophomore
JJ Glinsky led the way with 13 each. Lonardi also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and shot 6-for-9 from field. Freshman
Tyler Faux continued to shine for King's, scoring 12 points, adding five boards and four assists. Also in double-digits was Mitchell off the bench with 10, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 on the game. In his second start, junior
Brad Kalinowski dished out a team-high 10 assists, recording eight points and six rebounds.
As a team, King's shot 47.1 percent from the field, connecting on 32-of-68 from the field. They also shot 43.6 percent from three, totaling 17 made three-pointers in the win. The Monarchs dished out 28 assists on their 32 field goals, pulled down 38 boards, and recorded seven steals. In addition, King's out-scored Elizabethtown in points off turnovers (22-12), second chance points (10-9), bench points (35-31), and fast break points (22-3).
The Monarchs have a quick turnaround as they head to Clarks Summit, PA to face Clarks Summit University on Monday at 7:00 p.m. King's returns from the holiday to host Marywood University on Sunday, December 1 with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
