DALLAS, PA (February 13, 2019) – The King's College men's basketball team led late in the first half, but a three-point barrage from the Cougars of Misericordia University lifted the hosts to an 85-72 win over the Monarchs Wednesday in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play from Anderson Center.
The host Cougars benefited early from King's inability to finish around the rim, taking a 10-4 lead three minutes into the game on a three-pointer from Jason Kenny. Five straight points from
Tyler Millan brought King's to within one, but Misericordia fended off the Monarchs until midway through the half.
The Monarchs gained their first lead since 2-0 as freshman
JJ Glinsky nailed a three-pointer to push King's on top 22-21. Misericordia scored the next six points on back-to-back triples before the Monarchs pushed back with seven of the next eight points to take a two-point edge at 30-28 after a
Andrew Hudak turnaround jumper with 4:12 to go in the half.
With King's leading 32-31 with 3:41 to go,
Noah Tanner picked up his second foul and the Cougars went on a 12-2 run to finish the period capped by a lay-up at the buzzer by Noah Rivera. Jason Kenny led all players for MU with 16 points over the first 20 minutes, while Millan paced King's with 12 points and five rebounds. The hosts shot 55.6 percent from the field, including connecting on 8-of-16 in the period. KC was equally as hot, going 6-of-12 from deep in the first half.
Out of the locker room, Misericordia put together a 13-4 run over the first 3:16 of the half to put the game out of striking distance for the Monarchs. Millan finished with a team-high 22 points for the Monarchs, going 7-of-13 on field goals while tying for the team lead with seven boards.
Hudak posted 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks on 5-of-9 shooting, and Glinsky came off the bench to nail three of his six three-point attempts on the way to 11 points. Junior
Josh Bailey added 10 points for King's, which made 12 three-pointers on the night.
Jason Kenny paced Misericordia with 24 points, making 8-of-12 overall. Stone McCreery also was 7-of-10 from three-land to chalk up 23 points. MU was 31-of-64 (48.4 percent) overall, nailing 14 triples on the night.
King's will finish its 2018-19 season on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. against Manhattanville College for Senior Day. The Monarchs will honor its lone senior in
James Willis prior to the contest.
