King's Men's Tennis Looks to Kick Off Spring Season

WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 25, 2019) – King's College men's tennis looks to build on their 2-1 fall season record and will kick off their spring season next week in Florida.
 
The team will travel to the greater Orlando, Fla. area from Sunday, March 3, to Thursday, March 7 on their annual spring break trip. While in the sunshine state the team will compete beginning that Sunday at 11:30 a.m. with Emerson College followed the next day by Trine University at 3:00 p.m., Regis College on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday versus Cornerstone University (Mich.) at 6:30 p.m. and ending their trip against Wentworth Institute of Technology Thursday the 7th at 8:00 a.m..
 
Of those five teams, The Monarchs faced Emerson and Regis on last year's trip beating Emerson 7-2 and dropping to Regis 2-7. King's men went 1-4 overall while in Florida.
 
Juniors Cameron Tuck and Tyler Millan, sophomores Austin Mackey and Jason Homschek and freshmen Nick Holland and Nick Harth return for the Monarchs while newcomer Jeremy Henegan joins the squad. Henegan comes in as a senior from Newton, N.J.
 
The men capped their fall season with a great showing at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships where in No. 1 doubles Mackey and Millan made it to the finals where they battled and ultimately lost to the defending Champs of Wilkes University.
 
In singles matches, Hegarty (No. 2), Mackey (No. 3) and Harth (No. 5) were knocked out of play after competitive matches, Harth was topped by the eventual champion of his flight 6-2, 6-3 in a nail biter.
 
Millan headed the No. 1 bracket all the way to the semi-finals where his run would end in a thrilling 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 super tiebreaker. Homschek also hit the semifinals for the No. 6 flight as the No. 3 seed but was topped 6-2, 6-4. Holland was King's farthest finisher at No. 7 singles earning a spot in the finals. The freshman lost to the Colin Greenman of Wilkes 6-1, 6-0 for the title.
 
The Monarchs return home and open their spring season Sunday, March 24 at 12:00 p.m. where they play Lebanon Valley College at Kirby Park.
