Last Time Out: The Monarchs split with Misericordia on Thursday. Marywood dropped a pair of conference games to Cabrini this afternoon by scores of 11-2 and 12-5.

The Book On The Monarchs (14-16, 10-8 MAC Freedom):
  • King's is 10-2 at Lipo Field this year including a 2-0 mark in non-conference action. The Monarchs are hitting an impressive .363 as a team on their home field and have outscored teams 89-41 in those games. The great play at home has enabled KC to clinch their fourth consecutive spot in the MAC Freedom Tournament.
  • The Monarchs are very strong at the top of the lineup as Christian Pack leads the team with a .396 average in the two-hole while Dan Hartson is second at .387 right behind him. Hartson was just named the MAC Freedom Pitcher of the Week but also had a great week with his bat against Misericordia last week. The right fielder is hitting .489 at Lipo Field.
  • Matt Dobeck and Matt Mellinger sandwich the two seniors for the Monarchs. The two sophomores are third and fourth on the team in average. Dobeck is hitting .351 in the leadoff spot and has scored a team-high 33 runs while Mellinger is hitting .348 with a team-leading 32 RBI.
  • The lineup doesn't get any easier for opposing pitchers as Kyle Friebolin has a .297 average with 12 RBI and 11 runs scored. Tyler Reynolds has come on strong the past couple of weeks hitting six home runs while raising his average to .275. The second baseman has 15 RBI and 13 runs scored.
  • The Monarchs have a staff ERA of 6.90 this year and have been nearly perfect at Lipo Field with an ERA of 3.00 in 12 home games. King's has a deep staff of 10 pitchers with five or more appearances this year.
  • Jacob Lupas has pitched well this year despite his 0-3 record. In 11 appearances he has a 5.06 ERA with 15 strikeouts and two three-inning saves. Cooper Johnson is 2-0 with a 6.75 ERA but has been dominant at Lipo Field holding opponents to a .212 batting average with a 1.88 ERA in 14.1 innings.
  • Landon La Bar has also pitched well for KC recently, especially at home where he is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA.
The Book On The Pacers (5-22, 1-9 Atlantic East):
  • Marywood jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first three innings against King's last month before needing a walk-off single to win 11-10. The Pacers have struggled since that win losing 11 out of 12 games.
  • MU has given up a lot of runs in that time span with opponents scoring 10+ plus runs 10 times including the last four games.
  • Jake Schuster leads the offense and had the walk-off hit against the Monarchs last month. The first baseman is batting .393 after a slow start to the season with six home runs, 28 RBI, and 22 runs scored.
  • Bubba Klein is the only other every day starter batting above .300 at .311. The freshman had three hits in the second game against Cabrini this afternoon after going hitless in the first.
  • As a team the Pacers are hitting .254 with seven home runs, 99 RBI, and are being outscored 263-122.
  • As a staff Marywood has an ERA of 9.54 in 201 innings pitched. MU threw seven pitchers at least one inning against the Cavs this afternoon.
  • Trevor Powers or John Mandarano are possible starters for the Pacers on Tuesday. Powers has a 7.82 ERA and an 0-4 record while Mandarano started against the Monarchs last month and threw four strong innings before being relieved.
Up Next: King's will wrap up conference play with a weekend series against Eastern. The Monarchs will host the Eagles on Friday for Senior Day before traveling down to St. Davids for Saturday's doubleheader at The Yard.
