DOYLESTOWN, PA (April 6, 2019) – The Monarchs extend their win streak to four games after tallying two Middle Atlantic Conference wins at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pa. The Monarchs move to 13-12 and 3-5 in conference play.
Game 1: King's 6, Delaware Valley 4
King's started off strong as sophomore
Gabby Leary singled to right field with bases loaded to bring in sophomore
Mindina Lieback for the team's first run in inning one.
Â
Lieback came to play in the second inning as well as she doubled to right field and senior
Monica Burda scored another run to tie the game at 2-2. Neither team would score until the fourth when King's took the lead.
Â
In the top of the fourth, freshman
Lindsey Leppo knocked one into center field to get on base as junior
Mackenzie Yori was up next and hit a single of her own. Advancing on an error by the catcher, Leppo rounded to home and scored the third run of the game.
Â
The game remained 3-2 through three innings but King's would come back in the sixth to solidify their win.
Â
Freshman
Marisa Mauro took first on a walk and Lieback singled to right field as Mauro advanced to second. With
Gena Williams entering the game as Mauro's pinch runner, second baseman
Taylor Norris smacked a double to centerfield. Williams and Lieback scored on the play.
Â
In the game's last inning,
Gabriella Medina,
Kris Kocher and Leary made it on base with Leppo up to bat as she hit a sacrifice fly to the right and Medina brought in King's final run of the game.
Â
The Aggies recorded two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wouldn't be enough to overpower the Monarchs.
Â
Taking the win was Kocher (5-5) as she pitched nine strikeouts among her 31 batters faced and allowed only seven hits.
Game 2: King's 9, Delaware Valley 2
The Monarchs scored eight runs in just the first inning against Del Val, the most in a single inning all season and just the second time since spring break they registered nine runs.
Â
As Yori was the first to make it on base, Lieback would follow with a single to the outfield of her own. Yori and Lieback would gain a base after Norris was hit by a pitch.
Â
With bases loaded, Skok knocked one to the left and Yori brought in the first run of the game. Bases loaded once more pushed Medina to reach first on a fielder's choice as the Aggies tagged Lieback out at third.
Â
Leary was next in the lineup and hit yet another dinger where she singled to shortstop and would advance to second on a botched throw by Del Val, in turn allowing Skok and Norris to make it home.
Â
The score was now 3-0 with Mauro up to bat as the freshman doubled to center and Leary and Medina upped the lead to 5-0.
Â
Nicole Kirse tallied another King's double that led Mauro over home causing the Aggies to make five defensive changes in the field in hopes of stopping the Monarchs.
Â
Leppo collected another RBI as she hit a line drive down left allowing Kirse to score and Leppo would advance to third as Yori's at bat led to a ground out to third base. Lieback hit her second triple of the week that would send Leppo around to home bringing the score to 8-0 in the top of the first.
Â
King's scored what would be their last time in the second by Skok as an error on Del Val got Kirse to first, Medina to third and Skok home.
Â
The score sat at 9-0 until the bottom of the fifth when the Aggies recorded their two runs of the game, the last two innings of play went scoreless and the Monarchs left 2-0 against the Aggies.
Â
Kirse was also in the circle for game two as she allowed six hits and struck out six batters in her complete game with 28 batters faced.

King's softball returns home next Saturday, April 13, for another MAC Freedom doubleheader against cross-street rival Wilkes University. Games begin at 3:00 p.m.
