WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 21, 2019) -- The King's College men's tennis team welcomed Juniata College to town Saturday for its first dual match of the season, but the visiting Eagles were too much for the Monarchs as Juniata earned a 7-2 win over the Monarchs in action from Kirby Park.
King's played well in doubles' action, taking a 2-1 lead into singles action thanks to victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Senior
Tyler Millan teammed with
Nick Harth to pull the 8-6 win at the No. 1 spot, while
Nick Holland and
Jason Homschek pushed passed Loic Desjacque and Robert Singer at No. 3 doubles 8-3.
Singles play though would not go the way of the Monarchs, as the visiting Eagles swept the six individual matches though many were highly contested. At No. 1 singles, Millan won the first set 6-3, but Ilia Buralkin rounded to regain the momentum in taking a 3-6, 6-2, 10-3 win at the top spot.
At No. 5 singles, Homschek was broke in the first set in falling 6-4 in the first, and was outlasted in the second set tiebreak 8-6 in falling to Singer. Holland pushed his match to the bring at No. 6 singles, falling in the first set 6-3 before rebounding for a 6-1 win in the second. In the super tiebreaker, Holland and Trey France went back-and-forth, but France would earn the final two points in a 11-9 win to pick up the win.
King's is off for a weekend before hosting Penn College and Lycoming College Sunday October 6 in Kirby Park.
