Women’s Soccer Falls To Lebanon Valley, 2-0

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 21, 2019) --- The visiting Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team scored a goal in each half to defeat King's College 2-0 on a beautiful afternoon at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.

The Monarchs (3-4-0) played the Dutchmen (2-4-0) strong all afternoon but were unable to find the back of the net. LVC came out strong putting two shots on goal in the opening minutes but each time Tara Bender made easy work of stopping the attempts. King's countered with a pair of shots of their own in the 11th and 18th minutes but great looks from Breanna Jacinto and Emily Harrington sailed high.

Lebanon Valley got on the board with the first goal of the match late in the 26th minute when Madison Carper slipped a pass down the right side to Bridett Finn. Finn took a couple of dribbles towards the goal and then found the lower right of the net from the right wing for her team-leading third goal of the year.

The Monarchs had a strong response to the goal controlling possession for most of the remaining of the half but only managed two shots in the last 20 minutes. The best chance came in the 38th minute as Natalie Poulton tried to squeeze the ball into the bottom left. However, LVC keeper Serena Donmoyer made a nice diving save on the ball. Emily Harrington had a great look at the goal right before the end of the half but her attempt just missed right of the goal.

In the second half the teams fought up-and-down the pitch with both teams using strong defense to keep shots at a minimum. Kristen Dobkowski tried to beat Donmoyer to the lower left twice, first in the 68th minute and then in the 72nd minute, but each time the Dutchmen keeper was able to come up with the ball. Lebanon Valley found the back of the net in the 85th minute when a shot by Kaeleigh Smedley on the left side headed for the left side of the net deflected off a Monarch defender and rolled into the lower right.

King's battled for the whole 90 minutes while Lebanon Valley held a slight 10-8 shot advantage including 5-4 on goal. Bender made three saves in goal for KC while Donmoyer made four for the Dutchmen.

The Monarchs will look to rebound from the tough loss on Wednesday evening when they host Alvernia University for a 7 pm kickoff under the lights of McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.
