WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 27, 2019) -- After being handed their first conference loss of the season on Tuesday evening, the King's College women's volleyball team bounced back to defeat the visiting Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth, 3-0, improving to 12-2 on the season.
The Eagles kept the first set close as they never allowed the Monarchs to lead by more than three points. Then, with King's up, 13-12, the Monarchs outscored the Eagles 12-8 to end the set, 25-20. Set two saw the Monarchs jump to an early 10-4 lead before cruising to a 25-12 victory. Finally King's dominated set three as they took control on an early 15-4 lead, eventually topping the Eagles for their sixth home win of the season.
Sophomore
Taylor Mueller led the defense for the Monarchs, recording a game-high 14 digs, 10 service receptions, and two service aces. Sophomore
Becca Goldberg led with a match-high 9 kills on 22 attempts, hitting .318, and sophomore
Wiatt Hoffmann dished out 22 assists. At the net, freshmen
Marta Pawka and
Kayla Sondberg both tallied a game-high tying two blocks for the Monarchs.
As a team, the Monarchs controlled the match, leading in kills (31-26), assists (31-21), and service aces (7-3). The Monarchs also posted a .267 hitting percentage compared to the Eagles' .128.
King's is back at home as they host reigning MAC Freedom champion Eastern University on Wednesday, October 2 starting at 7:00 pm. They then start their road stretch, playing four straight away matches before returning to McGrane Gymnasium on Wednesday, October 16.
