Men’s Soccer Drops Hard Fought Battle At Arcadia

GLENSIDE, PA (September 28, 2019) --- The King's College men's soccer team outshot Arcadia University 18-5 on Saturday afternoon but the Knights capitalized on their few chances to defeat the Monarchs 3-1 from Jean Lenox West Field in Glenside.

The Monarchs (7-2-0) had the only shot of the first 10 minutes of the match as Quentin Szeker-Cortes had his attempt saved in the eighth minute. Arcadia (5-5-0) scored on their first shot of the match in the 14th minute as Alexander Kuchnicki received a pass from Duncan O'Connor, took one dribble into the box and scored off his right foot. The Monarchs responded with a strong offensive effort but shots by Fabio Massa, Aidan Oyler, Szeker-Cortes, and Aidan DeCamillo were blocked by the Knight defenders.

The Knights doubled their lead in the 27th minute when O'Connor headed in a cross from Matt Berndlmaier. King's had another strong response to the Arcadia goal but once again the Knight defense held strong keeping the Monarchs out of the back of the net. In the final 16 minutes of the half KC took five corner kicks and put three shots on goal. AU keeper Jake Varrato made saves on two shots by Kyle Shalvey and a header by DeCamillo. DeCamillo had another attempt blocked as King's outshot the Knights 9-3 in the first 45 minutes.

The Monarchs came out strong in the second half earning a corner kick in the first minute. Shalvey found Dylan Ramage in the box on the corner, but his header sailed just wide. KC earned another corner and once again Shalvey found the head of Ramage but this time his shot was blocked by a Acadia defender. Matthew Hesse got the Monarchs on the board in the 55th minute when he found the back of the net off a free kick from outside the box. The goal was Hesse's first of the defender's career.

Arcadia struck back in the 74th minute as O'Connor scored his second of the match with a free kick from the left side that skipped its way into the bottom right. The Monarchs fought hard for the full 90 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net as the Knights held on for the victory.

King's put six of their 18 shots on goal and earned 12 total corner kicks in the match while all five of Arcadia's shots were on goal and they only took two corner kicks. Connor McKeown made two saves in goal while his counterpart, Jake Varrato, made five saves.

The Monarchs will look to rebound when they return to the pitch on Tuesday evening with a 7 pm kickoff against Penn College from McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.
