Last Minute Goal By Ivanovs Gives Men’s Soccer 2-1 Victory At Juniata

HUNTINGDON, PA (September 7, 2019) --- Zach Ivanovs scored with just 24 seconds remaining to give the King's College men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over host Juniata College on Saturday afternoon from Gibbel Stadium in Huntingdon.

The Monarchs (2-1-0) completed their weekend trip to central Pennsylvania with two wins behind two second half goals. Not even 24 hours after defeating Penn State Altoona in a very physical match, KC took the field against the Eagles (3-2-0) who also played on Friday night but had an earlier start time than the Monarchs.

King's came out strong and controlled possession in the opening minutes earning the first corner kick of the match early in the fifth minute. Dylan Ramage gave the Monarchs their first shot of the match in the 12th minute when his attempt from the left wing sailed wide left. The first shot on goal of the match occurred in the 22nd minute when Aidan Oyler unleashed a strike from just outside the box that was grabbed by the Eagle keeper. The Monarchs kept the pressure on as Ramage had his shot blocked from the top of the box setting up a corner kick. The corner from Oyler found Aziz Atiyeh, who had just entered the match, in the middle of the box. However, his shot sailed just over the bar.

Juniata had a great look at goal in the 27th minute when Jacob Grove dribbled around a Monarch defender on the right wing and found himself with just the goalkeeper to beat. Pat Hughes came out of net and made a big save on Grove keeping the match scoreless. The Monarchs responded with a strong last 15 minutes of the half that unfortunately did not result in a goal. Kyle Shalvey powered the Monarch offense putting two shots on goal that the JC keeper just got his hands on to keep the game tied. Shalvey also sent in a corner to Alex Showalter whose header just missed high of the bar.

The strong play continued in the second half as King's found the back of the net just 48 seconds in. King's started with the ball and passed it around until sophomore Kevin Kolaski scored his first career goal from the top of the box to the lower left following a great cross pass. The Monarchs kept their foot on the gas as they looked to increase their lead but a shot by Oyler was saved and a deep strike from August Axtman went high.

Juniata evened the score in the 66th minute on a penalty kick following King's being called for a handball in the box. JC's Bass Diakhoumpa steeped up and put the ball into the upper right. As they did on Friday night whenever a goal was scored on them, KC responded with strong offensive play looking to get the go-ahead goal. Shalvey and Fabio Massa had shots saved while the Monarchs earned four corners in the final 20 minutes. With 24 seconds left Ivanovs one-timed a loose ball into the upper left from inside the box giving KC the lead. The goal was the first of the sophomore's career.

King's held a 17-8 shot advantage in the match including 10-5 in shots on goal. Once again, the Monarchs held a big advantage in corner kicks earning 11 and only defending one.

The Monarchs will return to Wilkes-Barre and host Marywood University on Wednesday night at 7 pm in McCarthy Stadium.
