Redden Makes Program History With First Short-Handed Goal

PITTSTON, PA (January 12, 2020) --- King's College junior Caitlin Redden became the first Monarch women's ice hockey student-athlete to score a short-handed goal on Sunday evening in a 9-2 defeat at the hands of visiting Stevenson University from the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

Redden scored her fourth goal of the season in the second period with the Mustangs leading 3-0. Her goal came just 17 seconds in a King's penalty kill. KC struggled with penalties all game as they were called for nine total penalties. The Mustangs scored six power play goals on their nine chances. Raeann Clancey scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Morgan Almon in the final minute of the game for King's other goal.

Nikki Kendrick led the Mustangs with three goals and four assists while Tea Ferrara recorded three points on two goals and an assist. After a two-goal first period, Stevenson opened the game up with three goals in the second and four goals in the third. The Mustangs outshot the Monarchs 59-18.

Redden led the Monarchs with four shots while Maggie Gould, Morgan Almon, Erin King, Kateri Heithaus, and Clancey all took two shots apiece. Josée Aitken won a team-high 14 faceoffs on 23 attempts. Emma Zeveney made 44 saves in goal before Hannah Bowers relieved her for the final 6:38 of play. Bowers made six saves while facing seven shots.

The Monarchs will return to action on Friday with a trip down the Northeast Extension to face Neumann University at 4 pm from the IceWorks Skating Complex in Aston.
