Zultevicz and Harrington Qualify For MACs in Pentathlon

SELINSGROVE, PA (January 17, 2020) --- Sarah Zultevicz and Emily Harrington both recorded Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships qualifying marks in the pentathlon on Friday evening while competing on the first day of the Orange and Maroon Classic at Susquehanna University.

Zultevicz finished sixth of 12 competitors with 2219 points while Harrington was seventh with 2203 points. In the first event, the 60-meter hurdles, Harrington was fourth with a MAC qualifying time of 10.03 seconds to score 706 points while Zultevicz was ninth with a MAC qualifying time of 10.66 seconds to score 594 points. In the high jump, Zultevicz finished third with a height of 1.50 meters (4'11') to score 621 points. She entered at 1.32 meters and cleared on her first attempt at 1.32 meters, 1.35 meters, 1.38 meters, 1.41 meters, 1.44 meters, 1.47 meters, and 1.50 meters. She missed all three attempts at 1.53 meters which would have broken her school record. Harrington scored 429 points with a height of 1.32 meters (4'4") to finish tied for ninth in the field. She hot her first attempt at that height before missing all three tries at 1.35 meters.

In the third event, the long jump, both Harrington and Zultevicz scored 403 points on a mark of 4.40 meters (14'5.25") on their first of three jumps to finish sixth. Zultevicz jumped 4.33 meters and 4.28 meters on her other two attempts while Harrington fouled and then hit 4.24 meters on her final jump. Zultevicz finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 7.51 meters (24'7.75") on her third toss to score 368 points. She had marks of 7.15 meters and 6.80 meters on her other two attempts. Harrington threw 6.97 meters (22'10.5") on her second attempt to score 333 points and finish ninth. She started with a toss of 6.43 meters and finished with a throw of 6.80 meters. In the last event of the day, Harrington ran an 800-meter time of 3:03.69 to score 332 points and finish eighth in the event. Zultevicz ran 3:15.67 to score 233 points in 11th place.

Messiah senior Taylor Wiederrecht won every event and scored 3518 points to top the field. Carlow junior Olivia Miller was second with 2868 points while Marywood senior Lindsey Gladden was third with 2710 points.

The meet will continue Saturday with the individual events starting at 9 am from the Garrett Field House in Selinsgrove.
