Late Surge Pushes Marywood Past King's Women's Lacrosse

WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 25, 2020) -- The King's College women's lacrosse team trimmed the Marywood University lead to just 10-7 early in the second half, but the Pacers finished the game on an 8-1 run to earn a 18-8 victory in non-conference play from McCarthy Stadium.

Marywood (1-0) scored the first five goals of the game before sophomore Jen O'Connor tallied on a free position shot with 12:11 to go in the first half to make the score 5-1. Seconds later, King's earned the draw control and junior MK Klodarska finished a pass from freshman Jess Bahnick to make it 5-2.

The Pacers answered with a run of their own, scoring three in a row to take an 8-2 edge with 7:23 remaining in the first half. Sophomore Natasha Koslop scored her fourth of the season for the Monarchs on a nice shot with help from O'Connor to stop the MU run and make the score 8-3.

After a save from junior goalkeeper Orla Cottell on a free position shot, King's would tally again thanks to another free position strike from O'Connor. The run continued for the Monarchs (1-2), as Klodarska tallied again to trim the Pacer lead to three but two goals in the last 27 seconds for Marywood gave the visitors a 10-5 lead at the break.

After halftime, the Monarchs once again trimmed their deficit to three, as Bahnick scored on a nice move to cage before Klodarska earned her hat trick on a pass from Bahnick but four second-half goals from Molly Yelencsics proved to be the difference as Marywood pulled away for the win.

O'Connor poasted a team-best five points on three goals and two assists, adding a caused turnover and five draw controls, while Bahnick finished with a goal and two helpers. Senior Kelly Pierce was her normal disruptive self, posting three caused turnovers and five ground balls in addition to two draw controls.

Junior Emma Lehman had a strong defensive game with three caused turnovers, and senior Mia Dardanelli and junior Kylie McCarthy each added four loose ball pickups. Cottell made six saves for the Monarchs, as King's was outshot 33-17 Tuesday.

The Monarchs did ride well in the midfield, forcing seven turnovers in clearing situations, but Marywood finished the night with 15 free-position attempts to just the six for KC.

The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday, starting a three-game road trip at Susquehanna University at noon in Selinsgrove, PA.
