Monarch Women Drop Home Contest to Eastern

WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 5, 2020) -- The King's College women's basketball team dropped their third-straight Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contest as they fell, 81-67, to the Eastern University Eagles Wednesday night in McGrane Gymnasium.

The Monarchs opened the game with seven straight points from senior Rebecca Prociak as they led, 9-4, but the Eagles answered with an 8-2 run to take the lead, 12-11, with 3:59 left in the opening quarter. Six straight Monarchs points saw the hosts rebuild their lead, 17-12, but Eastern closed the quarter with eight unanswered points to hold a 20-17 advantage. Back-to-back three's from senior Kayla Dillinger and sophomore Samantha Rajza saw King's regain the lead, 23-20, but Eastern scored nine straight to retake the lead with 6:09 left in the half. King's closed within three, 32-29, off a jumper from Rajza, but the Eagles closed the half with five unanswered points to take the 37-29 lead into the locker rooms.

Eastern continued their momentum into the second half and led by 15 with 5:06 to go in the third. The two teams traded baskets as King's tried to close the deficit before ending the quarter with the Monarchs trailing, 60-45. King's came out of the break with a 12-2 run to pull within five off a three-point play by senior Mackenzie Yori with 7:53 left in the game. King's went scoreless over the next 5:47 as Eastern rebuilt their lead to hand the Monarchs their third-straight Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) loss.

Prociak led the Monarchs with 19 points and 14 rebounds fro her tenth double-double of the season, adding two steals. Yori added 15 points and two steals, and freshman Emily Morano came off the bench to total 10 points, adding a team-high three assists. Rounding out the Monarch offense were Dillinger and Rajza with nine points each.

Kay Wulah led Eastern with 22 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. Jaelyn Harris totaled 20 points, including four three's. Viki Kneis recorded 13 points with nine boards and five assists, and Da'Naziah Brown added 12 points.

The Monarchs shoot 35.8 percent (19-53) from the floor, including 30.8 percent (4-13) from three. As a team, they forced 17 Eagles turnovers, committing six steals, and they pulled down 32 boards in the loss. Inside the box score, the Monarchs held the advantage in fast break points (19-5) and bench points (13-8).

King's is back in action on Saturday as they host FDU-Florham in McGrane Gymnasium with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m.
