ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (February 9, 2020) -- The King's College wrestling team saw freshman
Billy Grace earn a decision win at 184, while sophomore
Kade Kravits earned his 30th win of the year as well Sunday but the Monarchs couldn't top hosting Elizabethtown College in a 41-6 loss to the Blue Jays Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Jays started the match with a forfeit win at 125, and junior Josh McLaughlin earned a major decision win over senior
Dakota Quick to help take a 10-0 lead over the Monarchs. Senior Colton Rex picked up a decision win for E-Town at 141 over King's freshman
Robert Zelinski, followed by a technical fall win by Josh Paisley at 149 to put the home team up 18-0.
After another forfeit at 157, King's would get on the board thanks to the 30th individual win of the year by sophomore
Kade Kravits, who grinded out another decision win over Kyle Bythell. Late in the opening period, Kravits got to Bythell on a side shot, and pulled him down with his left leg to get the 2-0 takedown edge going into the second period. Starting down, Kravits quickly escaped to take a 3-0 lead and worked a smart third period to pick up the riding time point in a 4-0 decision win.
Sophomore
Nick Palazzolo would fall to Hunter Beaudet by technical fall at 174 to clinch the match for the Blue Jays, but Grace would come up with a nice victory at 184 over Jakob Latham with a 9-3 decision score. Grace started the scoring with a gritty takedown late in the first period, showing strong legwork to get behind Latham at the 1:15 mark of the first. He then used that takedown to turn Latham, nearly picking up a pin but settling for two near fall points with just under a minute to go in the first period.
In the second period, Grace would pick up two points with 1:01 to go in the frame thanks to a reversal just on the edge of the ring before the two wrestlers were whistled out to make it 6-1. After an escape by Latham, Grace took down Latham with a shot to his legs, slowly working behind to pick up another two points and an 8-2 lead going to the third. Latham would work out for an escape point, but that was where the match would stay as Grace secured the win.
It was just a little too late though for the Monarchs, as E-Town won at 197 by forfeit and Keegan McCord posted a pin over King's junior Isaac Santiago to finish the day's festivities.
The Monarchs are back on the mat on Friday evening, February 14 at 6:30 p.m., hosting both Keystone College and the University of Scranton for a tri-meet in McGrane Gymnasium for Senior Night.
