Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 in MAC Freedom Duel with Arcadia

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 23, 2021) --- The King's College men's soccer team were defeated by Arcadia University on Saturday evening in McCarthy Stadium 2-1.

The Knights of Arcadia University struck first just seven minutes in when Steven Warren intercepted the ball on a KC turnover and beat out King's goalkeeper Cole Catherman to give his squad an early 1-0 lead.

The Monarchs showed their resiliency and earned an equalizer in the 15th minute to level the match at 1-1. Buck Diacont played a cross from the right wing into the direction of Liam McLoughlin who took a clean touch and buried a shot into the bottom left corner leaving Arcadia goalkeeper, Jake Varrato, no chance.

The Knights scored again in the 31st minute when Cole Gordon found Daniel Tittelmayer inside the King's 18 yard box to make it 2-1. Arcadia carried the one goal lead into the break.

The beginning of the second half saw a battle for possession as the Monarchs aimed to square the match once again, however neither side managed to create a solid chance at goal.

Catherman came off his line to make a stellar diving stop in the 75th minute and keep King's within a goal of the Knights. Unfortunately, the Monarchs were unable to get on the board in the second half and Arcadia took home the victory with the final score 2-1 in favor of the Knights.

Arcadia held a slight 9-8 shot advantage over King's. McLoughlin and Evan Egnatovich led the Monarch offense with two shots each, while Catherman collected three saves.

The squad will continue its journey in MAC Freedom play on Wednesday night at Lycoming College. Kickoff is set for 5:00 pm at UPMC Field.
