Shalvey and Showalter Score Second Half Goals to Lead Men's Soccer Past Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (October 27, 2021) --- The senior duo of Kyle Shalvey and Alex Showalter scored second half goals to lead the King's College men's soccer team to a massive 2-1 victory over Lycoming College in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Monarchs clinch a spot in the conference playoffs and move into a tie for first place.

Lycoming got off the game's opening shot in the third minute missing wide left, and then forced King's goalkeeper Cole Catherman to make an early save in the fifth minute. The Monarchs saw their first look at goal in the ninth minute when Dylan Domchek ripped a shot over the crossbar.

Both sides continued to trade chances throughout the first half, including several corner kicks, but neither were able to convert, and the match remained scoreless going into the break.

KC wasted no time getting on the board in the second half, scoring in the 50th minute of play. Showalter caught the Lycoming goalkeeper, Nick Wilke off his line and launched a shot into the back of the net to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead. Catherman and Kevin Kolaski picked up assists on the play for King's.

The Warriors responded ten minute later when they found an equalizer off the foot of Brayden Wise who placed his shot past Catherman and into the bottom left corner of the goal.

The match became physical on both sides following the goal from Lycoming as each squad battled to find the go-ahead goal. Chris O'Neil sparked a counter-attack for the Monarchs in the 78th minute when he charged down field towards the Warrior goal. O'Neil then played the ball out wide to Luke Johns who crossed it in to the path of Shalvey for a one-time finish.

The King's defense held strong the remainder of the contest, as Shalvey's goal proved to be the game-winner for KC. Catherman was tremendous in net, as the first-year Monarchs posted a season-high nine saves. O'Neil and Domchek led the King's offense with two shots each.

KC will play its final regular season match of the season at home on Saturday afternoon against Misericordia University. Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm at McCarthy Stadium.
