Field Hockey Battles Tough In Season-Ending Loss At DeSales

CENTER VALLEY (October 27, 2021) – The King's College field hockey team put together a valiant effort in their season final on Wednesday evening but fell short to host DeSales University by a score of 4-1 in Center Valley.

The Monarchs battled hard all night against the Bulldogs as the teams traded possessions up and down the field most of the game. DSU took an early 32 seconds into the game when Maddie Trocki sent a centering pass from the right side towards the far post. An onrushing Tyra Wingle managed to get a stick on the pass and send it into the back of the cage for her 11th goal of the season. The King's defense stood tall for the rest of the quarter getting three saves from Ellie Glatz in goal and a huge defensive save from Lexi Prowker in the 13th minute.

King's had a strong defensive quarter in the second limiting DSU to just two total shots with one being saved by Glatz and the other being blocked. However, the Monarchs had a tough time figuring out the Bulldog defense and managed to get the ball downfield but were unable to get off any shots of their own.

In the second half the Bulldogs increased their lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute as Wingle tallied her second goal of the game as she was able to get a stick onto a pass into the circle and push the ball into the back of the cage. King's responded back a couple minutes later on their first penalty corner of the night as Bailey Jordan sent a pass to the top of the circle to Sara Whitesell. Whitesell took the ball into the circle and blasted a shot from the top through an onrushing Bulldog defense and into the back of the cage from her fifth goal of the year.

DSU answered the Monarch goal with a strong attack as Abby Wolfe and Ashley Thalassinos sandwiched a Glatz save before Grace DeThomas managed to hit the ball into the back of the cage just before the period ended. The fourth quarter went back-and-forth up-and-down the field until the Bulldogs scored their final goal of the game with just over four minutes left. Maddie Trocki scored her 12th goal of the year on a scramble in front of the cage. The Monarchs had a few chances as time expired earning four penalty corners, but Prowker had two shots saved and a shot blocked while Danielle Runo had a shot blocked on each corner attempt.

Glatz finished the game with 10 saves while the Monarchs recorded three defensive saves. King's finished the game with seven penalty corners while DeSales had five. The Bulldogs outshot the Monarchs 24-9.

The Monarchs finish the season with a 4-11 record. DeSales closes out the season 7-10.
