Second Half Dooms Monarchs in Loss at Misericordia

DALLAS, PA (October 30, 2021) -- Despite a quick 10-0 start to begin the first quarter, the King's College Monarchs fell in their third road contest, 24-17, at Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play.

The Monarchs defense held strong on the opening drive on a fake punt attempt from the Cougars to give King's (4-4, 3-4 MAC) to give the Monarchs great field position for their opening drive. Starting on the Misericordia 34-yard line, King's got on the board first with 10:45 to play in the opening quarter behind a 19-yard touchdown run from first year Brennan Robinson to cap off a three play, 34-yard drive. The extra-point attempt from Kyle Prescavage was successful to give King's the early 7-0 lead.

King's put three more on the board on their third drive in the first quarter, completing a four-play drive with a Prescavage field goal from 40 yards, as the Monarchs led 10-7 with 4:30 to play in the first.

Misericordia was driving to finish the opening quarter and connected for their first points of the game with 13:27 left in the half on a 41-yard field goal from Nic Neidlinger, King's still leading 10-3. Six empty possessions, including a forced fumble from Joseph Carchio that was recovered by Dylan White to end a Misericordia drive with 3:20 to go in the half, ended the half as King's took a knee to run out the final 16 seconds of the half to hold the 10-3 lead into the break.

The Cougars tied the game, 10-10, on their first drive of the second half on a 69-yard touchdown reception where Mitchel Micale found Jadyn Childs with 11:35 left in the half. The two teams traded fumbles on the next two plays, as Brendan Mozeleski forced a Cougars fumble and White recovered his second fumble of the game.

King's took advantage of the turnover to score on a five play, 55-yard drive as Robinson scored his second touchdown of the game on a 43-yard run. Prescavage's extra-point attempt was successful to give the Monarchs the 17-10 lead with 1:33 to play in the third.

Despite a White interception and a Jamil Thomas forced fumble recovered by Jake Silver, the Monarchs offense could not capitalize down the stretch. The Cougars put their game-tying drive together on a four play, 49-yard drive with 8:51 to play on a run from Micale. Then, Misericordia got their game-winning drive with 5:48 left in the game, leading 24-17.

The Monarchs had one final shot with 1:58 to play, stringing together a 10-play drive down to the Misericordia three-yard line, but a false start from the Monarchs and an incomplete pass sealed the win for the Cougars, 24-17.

Quarterback Tyler Moore went 16-for-33 with 156 yards. Robinson put together his third-straight game of over 100 yards rushing, totaling 160 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns. Brandon Cohen was the top receiver for the Monarchs with five catches for 45 yards, while Tyler Carey completed two receptions for 44 yards.

White led the defense with 11 total tackles, two fumble recoveries, a pass break up, and an interception with a 60-yard return. Mozeleski also added nine tackles, and Teone Sherrod recorded eight tackles.

Misericorida's Micale completed 15 passes on 24 attempts for 201 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, while also leading the run game with 107 total yards on 20 carries with a touchdown. Jadyn Childs led the receivers with 144 yards on three receptions with a touchdown. The defense was led by Tavion Rogers with 12 total tackles, while T.J. Prather forced three fumbles and added a sack for a loss of 13 yards.

As a team, the Monarchs totaled 347 yards of offense, including 191 rushing yards, with 19 first downs.

The Monarchs head out for the final road game of the season on Saturday, November 6 at Stevenson University for a noon kick-off in Owings Mills, Maryland.
